Recycle Tennis Shoes?

I got a Greenwise magazine from Publix the other day and in was an article about recycling your old tennis shoes. I thought, Wow, what a great idea. So I wanted to pass along the information.
Nike has a program called Nike’s Reuse-A-Shoe. Athletic shoes (any brand) are ground up for reuse in playgrounds, running tracks, basketball courts and more. You can mail your shoes in or find a drop off location here. Their website asks that no cleats, dress shoes or shoes with metal pieces be recycled. And to please make sure the shoes are dry and free of mud and dirt.
This sounds like a great idea for shoes that can’t be worn anymore. I always try to donate, but some shoes are not good enough. I looked and there is a drop off location near my home, so that’s where our shoes will go from now on!
