Who is Johnny Reid? I had never heard of him, but I am glad I was sent his CD to review! Johnny Reid’s music has a raspy, blues, jazzy type of feel. Think – Bruce Springsteen – sort of. This is the type of music you can turn on and bop around cleaning the house or relaxing on a Sunday. It even earned my daughter’s approval.
The songs have wonderful lyrics. The words are very heartfelt and meaningful. 1 – Today I’m Gonna Try and Change the World – love the words! 4 – Dance with Me – very sweet and slow . 5 – Good People – good beat – good message. 7 – Love Thing – very bluesy and jazzy.

“From a young age, I listened to all kinds of music,” says Reid. “My mother was a big fan of Stax and Detroit soul. My father was a big fan of all music as long as it told a story. I have taken the instrumentation, performance, and energy of soul and annexed that with storytelling of things that really matter in this world – family, love, and friendship.”
After college, Johnny Reid took a job writing songs where he had to commute 18 hours every few weeks back and forth and work a a part time job.When a full time job opened up, he relocated his family, only to find the company closing it’s doors not long after. But none of this stopped him from writing music. When he finally started to sing his music, that’s when people took notice.
If you ask Johnny Reid what the songs on this album reflect, he will tell you: “It’s about love, appreciation, dedication, devotion, respect—everything I try to stand up for.” He concludes: “All I have ever asked for is the chance to sing my songs, play my music, tell my stories and be part of something bigger than myself.”
