My daughter told me I thought her manners and watching me help others! like opening doors for anyone… you know when you see someone with their hands full, helping if they need a hand.
I think that my attitude of we are a village and need to help those who need it is been passed on to my girls…..

Our MOPS group decided to be a part of Make A Difference Day. We put the call out to our community to donate new and gently used items. We were donating all of it to two local shelters and to the homeless in our area.
I brought my 3yo and 7yo daughters along with me. They both helped me sort and package things up. As we were doing so I talked to them about what and why we were doing it. They enjoyed it and felt good about helping other less fortunate.
We were shocked and overwhemingly surprised at the genorosity of our community. We received so many wonderful and new items and bags and bags of new blankets etc… We weren’t sure if the shelters would have enough room. Sure enough they did and were so very thankful.

I've encouraged kids by teaching them. I model and hope that they see that serving others is a real blessing.
We had them donate new toys and canned goods to family's in need during the holidays!
Thank you!

We are just starting to teach the concept of "charity" to The Boy. At Christmas-time he voluntarily put some of his own money in the bell-ringer's pot, so I think we're doing something right!

I encourage my children to help others by teaching by example and making it fun for them to help me. Whenever we do something to help someone else, I always make a big deal out of how important it was, so they know how good they did and how proud I am of them. Thanks for the chance!

We have volunteered as a family to serve dinner at our local retirement community. It's great seeing the young and old interact, and it makes my kids more aware of other people's needs and how they can help.

my daughter has collected pennies and bottles to help those in need locally in the food banks and also in Haiti. She also comes shopping with me for pet food we can buy cheaply with sales and coupons to donate to the shelter.

The best thing to help children learn to help others is to help others yourself. Hopefully my children will catch on. I help teach a class at a local crisis pregnancy center now.

Helping others has always been a part of our lives, so the encouragement is always there. We buy used duffle bags, backpacks, etc and put toiletries, snacks, clean clothes and give them to the homeless. We also make scarves and give them to the residents in a halfway house for recovering addicts.
