Swimming Lessons or Not…

Summer is here and we will be in the pool all the time. My son goes in just about everyday and I’ve taking Savannah in many of those days. Right now she’s wearing a swim vest, she hates the water wings, and she’s doing pretty good with the vest. She swims all around the pool kicking her little feet. But I would love to have her swimming without the vest. I’ve contemplated the community pool, private lessons, teaching her myself. I tried that last one with Hunter and it worked okay.

Does anyone have any pool advice?

I paid for swim lesson's for 3 kids last year and was disappointed to find out that they weren't so much teaching them to swim as teaching them not to be afraid of the water…I am going to try and teach them to swim myself this year. Good Luck!

I would love to do swimming lessons for my son. However, it is expensive here and too far. She looks scared…lol, how cute!

  4. We did group swim lessons w/ my 3 yr/4 yr old this spring and I agree w/ Mellisa…more to be not afraid than to actually swim. My son tired of it and started to complain so we quit signing him up. We are going to try private lessons with his fave teacher at the public pool and see if that works better. He is far more comfortable w/ hubby in the pool than the teacher, so if hubby could teach him, that would probably be the best of all. Good luck!

Hi! I taught my kids to swim as well as taking them to swimming lessons. If you know the strokes well, teaching them yourself is great. Sometimes they perform better with other kids. It all depends on your children.

Later my kids joined the homeschool swim team where I assisted the coach. They really perfected their strokes there.
