Do you ever get that smelly towel smell? Sometimes my towels get a funky smell. I was curious to find out why my towels smell funny so I checked out SmellyWasher.com and here’s what I found out.
1. Overuse of detergent. According to the Smelly Washer website, it’s not necessary to use the directed amount of detergent. You only need to use a fraction of what the manufacture recommends.
2. Overuse of fabric softener. They recommend using dryer sheets, even cutting them in half.
3. Using mainly cold water. Hot water dissolves detergent residue much better than cold water. I you do use cold water, they recommend using hot water at least once a week. I’ve always used cold water because my mother told me it worked just as well and costs less, however I have started to wash my towels and sheets in hot water.
Check out smellywasher.com for more reasons.
I was able to try the Smelly Towel Cleaner and was amazed that you only need to use a small amount with no other detergent. I washed a lot of our towels and when they came out of the dryer they had a nice neutral smell. While I was writing this, I was staying at my cousin’s house for the week and she has a smelly washer and is soooo excited that I turned her on to this and she can’t wait to get a bottle for herself.
Smelly Washer has kindly offered one Mommy Has to Work reader a bottle of Smelly Towel Cleaner for themselves.

The main cause of front load or top load stink is overuse of detergents because the user is following directions for amount used. If detergent has nothing to react against it will leave a residue on the inside of the washer that is a food source for mold and bacteria to grow.

I didn't know that cold water only caused the funk
I learned… "Because softener is dispensed in the rinse cycle of a washing machine it leaves a residue on the inside of the outer tub. Odor-causing mold grows on this residue and is transferred to towels and clothing" about liquid softener

I learned that after the wash is done, you should leave the door open for a little while to let the remaining water evaporate because that can cause more stinkiness!

I actually learned a lot. I have a front loading washer and have said many times that I wont buy another one! They are over priced, not work all the extra work and stink! oh my goodness. Its gross! So, I learned some causes of why its stinky. I learned that I need to dilute the softener much more than I already do or switch to sheets or the ball. I learned that mildew is growing like crazy because of the warm and damp environment and I should leave the door open and dispenser out for a while after I'm done to let it dry out. I would LOVE to try this product. =) Thanks for the cool giveaway.
