Kindercare Summer Camp

My son, Hunter use to go to summer camps all the time. he had to, both my husband and I worked full time. But last summer he stayed home most of the summer with daddy. He did attend a few individual camps, though, just to have something to do.Below is a summary of the Learning Centers’ Second Annual “Summer Fun” Survey:

I’ve used Kindercare in the past, when Savannah was an infant and Hunter attended some of the summer days there as well. Kindercare is a great center. I love that it’s a national center. To me, that means that more standards are in place and all the centers are regulated and such. With everything you here in the news, it’s scary to just drop your children off and expect someone else to care and watch out for them. This summer Kindercare is having some awesome camps! Check out Kindercare’s Summer Camp website for more info, but here’s a little bit about it.

There are 12 camps/weeks to sign up for. Each camp has different activities based on school age or preschool. I’ll list little info on each camp for the school aged children.

•Wilderness 101 – Learn the basics of surviving in the wilderness and on deserted islands, including the basics of setting up camp. Learn to use a compass and even how to use Morse code. My son is interested in this one.

•Dig Ancient Egypt – Investigate pyramids and learn about mummies, create cartouches using the hieroglyphic alphabet, and play Egyptian games. They will even taste some Egyptian foods!

•Wild, Wild West – Create salt-dough maps of trails west, sing traditional western songs, square dance and more. They will also learn about this amazing time in history, when fortunes were made and lost, and legends were created.

•Scienterrific – Explore a variety of topics in physics, chemistry, life science, earth science, ecology, and engineering through fun and educational, hands-on activities.

•Spectacular Sports – Learn about five popular sports: soccer, volleyball, baseball, basketball, and lacrosse. Of course, Hunter likes this one too!

•Animal Antics – Build models of and learn about different animals. Observe animals around the center, learn about animal camouflage, exercise like animals. This one sounds interesting as my son loves animals!

•Gross and Gooey Science – Learn all about the science of gross and will create such things as “intestine art” from yarn and sculptures out of wax. What kid doesn’t like things that are gross!

•Kids’ Kitchen – Work in teams to prepare and cook a Spaghetti Meal that includes spaghetti with meatless meatballs, an Italian salad, garlic bread, and a fruit dessert. Create centerpieces, fold napkins, and set tables. I want my son to learn these things!

•Sports Smarts – Learn all about table tennis, croquet, disc golf, bocce ball, and flag football. Learn the history of these sports and create their own equipment for playing each sport.

•Art Expo – Learn about the basics of composition, including line, color, texture, and pattern. Draw self-portraits, paint still lifes, create collages, carve sculptures, and cut patterns from paper.

•Splish Splash! – How many things can you do with water? The children will learn how to create with water, cook with water and, most importantly, play with water!

•Feats of Science – All ages are curious about the hows and whys of simple machines. During the unit Gadgets and Gizmos, children will learn how simple machines, such as inclined planes, wheels and axles, wedges, levers, screws, and pulleys, make difficult tasks easier.
