Giving Back This Season

Every year we always say we want to do more.

I really want to take the kids, mostly my eleven year old son, to volunteer passing out meals or passing out toys to those in need.

This year my husband took Hunter to help pass out toys with a local radio station. They arrived at noon, but were too late to help. All the toys were passed out. It’s the thought, right?

Last Friday was the Holiday party for the Firefighters and my husband and I attended. The price to get in was an unwrapped toy each. I loaded up my bags and took 5 toys altogether. That felt great to be able to give extra toys this year. All toys were collected for Toys for Tots.

Then on Thursday I read about people all over going to local Kmart and paying off layaways as a Secret Santa. My husband and I talked about it and on Sunday we loaded up the kids and drove to the closest Kmart. We paid off a layaway for a single mom and her daughter. The items on layaway were all Dora stuff, toys, linens and such.

On Monday the cashier called to say the single mom picked up her stuff and was so happy and felt so blessed.

Next year I hope to be able to do more!

I'm a mother of 2 who likes to get involved in too much! Besides writing here I started a non-profit, I'm on the PTO board, very active in my community and volunteer in the school. I enjoy music, reading, cooking, traveling and spending time with my family. We just adopted our 3rd cat and love them all!

  1. We do a lot of volunteering at our local food shelf and the VFW and legion. I have always wanted to have a ‘free Christmas Dinner or Thanksgiving Dinner’ now that we have a barn that just may happen!!

  2. My family put together a food box for a girl and her family. They have not been eating, except at school. I also put together a care box for an elderly couple through a group Heart4Seniors that I belong to. I love that even though we are tight financial ourselves we have enough to give a little bit to those who have even less.

  3. We volunteer, hubby as an EMT and firefighter, me at church.

  4. My kids and I volunteer at a local food pantry weekly. Hubs and I have a sponsor child from Indonesia, routinely donate to charity, and volunteer at church. We love to give.

  5. Our family does a lot of volunteering and we also try to donate to charity whenever we can.

  6. I love giving back. This year we adopted a family with ten kids. We had a blast purchasing for them.

  7. That was awesome!

  8. Oh that’s so great! You know I have stunk about this, but I’m determined to make it a greater part of my life!

  9. My job we do a collection for our children’s families who cannot afford gifts. Great feeling to give.
