I do my best to be eco-friendly. It can be hard sometimes. Like this weekend I had some kids over and I wanted to supply water bottles. We never buy bottled water. Now I could have bought some pitchers and cups but the case of bottled water was only $3.99. So now I have about 2 dozen bottles of water left over, but we do recycle them. We normally just use our own reusable water bottle on a daily basis. You can read all about jars and bottles at eBottles.com. I always look for a bottle that is BPA free.
Bisphenol A (BPA) is a controversial chemical that can be found in the lining of food cans, certain water bottles and more. Some researchers have linked the hormone-mimicking chemical to a host of issues including behavioral and developmental effects in kids. Thermos plays it safe, and has made a commitment to only manufacture products that are BPA-free.
We recycle everything! We are the only house on the street with 4 recycling bins out front. But does that mean we are doing good? A woman at my daughter’s school said she hardly ever has stuff to recycle because she buys smarter. She doesn’t buy items that have excessive materials. This is what I want to do better at. But again, it’s hard for my family. We buy boxed cereal and foods, laundry detergent in bottles, soda in cans and jars of spaghetti sauce.
Composting. We use to compost at our old house. I would love to get a real compost bin that we can just turn. I had one made out of a Rubbermaid tote and my husband had to use a shovel and turn it every week. I noticed when we composted that we had so much less garbage. It was great!
Buying smarter. I also try and buy eco-friendly products such as cleaning products, paper products even skin care. Looking For An Eco-Conscious Skincare? Citrus Clear Is It. I love trying new all natural skin care products. I’ve even made my own cleaning supplies but really, I’m a little lazy and just buy them. As for paper products if I do buy them I look for eco-friendly versions. We never buy napkins anymore. I’ve made my own and we just use and wash. I also bought extra wash cloths for the kitchen to reduce our paper towel usage.
What can you do to improve your greenness?
We do a lot to be green, but I do know that we need to pay a little more attention to the products that we buy, particularly skin care products.
Oh man…. we TRY, but we could definitely be better!!! Working on it!
I try but there is certainly room for improvement. Composting is definitely on my to-do list!
I’m not all that green. We do use cloth diapers though.
We try really hard to be green. We have ducks and chickens and several gardens. I cannot afford to always buy organic but I do try when I can.
We recycle and noticed how our trash reduced to 1/3rd. We’re the only house on the block who has so little trash! We also compost and like you am seriously looking for a compost bin!
We recycle but I need to be MORE proactive about recycling.
we recycle but I really need to start composting.
I need to start composting. I already feel like I do more recycling than most, but it would be better if I really used less.
i believe being green is a work in progress. it’s also really hard to be 100% green. like i used cloth diapers- i had 3 in cloth in one stage or another for a few months. but with the hard water in our town? the ONLY thing that got diapers clean and not skunky was plain old Tide. If that’s not a conflict i dont’ know what is LOL
I’m a rather murky green.
I totally need to do better with recycling our water bottles!
We try SO HARD to be green, but we could DEFINITELY be better!
LOVE your Go Green ideas.. we do a lot, too. We recycle everything, we use cloth baggies or plastic containers that are reusable.
I really want to try composting too. Less garbage would be fabulous!
We really try our best but there’s always room for improvement. I would love to focus on switching our cleaning projects to more eco friendly alternatives soon.
I try to be green when possible. I try to recycle and not be wasteful. I would love one day be able to create one of those compost bins to be even more green.
we are pretty green but not as green as we should be or I would like to be. We will continue to progress with it though 🙂
We try to be as green as we can but I do love my disposable cleaners.
Great post! I definitely need to improve in this area. I would love to start re-purposing more especially doing projects with my son.. with things that we would normally discard of. Thanks for some new ideas!
I can always improve. My state is huge with composting and recycling, so we do that weekly through our waste collection service. I am fanatical about waste, I cannot stand being wasteful so i am pretty diligent about NOT wasting anything.
We recycle everything that can be recycled but I’m sure we could always do better. Sounds like you are doing your part.
The only thing I really do is recycle, so I am sure I could be doing a lot more.
I try to buy as much eco-friendly products as I can.
I need to start composting.
I could definitely do better than in this department.
We live on a farm and are working very hard to become self sufficient, which requires us to recycle everything. Things that we cannot recycle/reuse/repurpose in one capacity or another, we do take down to our recycle area in town. We do compost, plus we have pigs and chickens that help with table scrapes. Being a city girl all my life, country living tooks quite the adjustment but I’m getting better everyday. Definitely doing my part to go green.
My boyfriend calls me a hippie all of the time because I refuse to let him use paper towels! lol
