I was able to see Into the Woods a few weeks ago with my cousin, Merrilee.
I had to think on my review after the movie. The movie had a wonderful cast and the scenes were amazing. I love a good musical and this is a musical. I don’t think I realized that before going to see it. The movie prodcued a few laughs and some of the scenes seemed cheesey. But now that I think about musicals can be like that sometimes. Grease for example is my all time favorite movie and some of those scenes a re a bit cheesey if you really think about it. The sudden break out of song through me.
However, I really enjoyed the movie and can’t wait to see it again with my daughter.
“Into the Woods” is a modern twist on several of the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales, intertwining the plots of a few choice stories and exploring the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests. This humorous and heartfelt musical follows the classic tales of Cinderella (Anna Kendrick), Little Red Riding Hood (Lilla Crawford), Jack and the Beanstalk (Daniel Huttlestone), and Rapunzel (MacKenzie Mauzy), all tied together by an original story involving a Baker and his Wife (James Corden and Emily Blunt), their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the Witch (Meryl Streep), who has put a curse on them.
Rob Marshall, the acclaimed filmmaker behind the Academy Award®-winning musical “Chicago” and Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” directs the film, which is based on the Tony®-winning original musical by James Lapine, who also penned the screenplay, and legendary composer Stephen Sondheim, who provides the music and lyrics. Produced by John DeLuca, Marshall, “Wicked” producer Marc Platt and Callum McDougall, “Into the Woods” will be released in theaters December 25, 2014.
Into the Woods” premiered on Broadway on November 5, 1987, at the Martin Beck Theatre. The production, which ran for 764 performances, won Tony® Awards for Best Score, Best Book of a Musical and Best Actress in a Musical. My daughter wanted to see this, this weekend. I am thinking of taking her.
This movie is amazing. Can’t wait to see it again. I’ve loved it since it was on broadway.
It is true that most musicals are cheesy but that’s what makes them fun. Sounds like an interesting family movie.
Before the trailers and such came out for this, I had no idea that it was based on a Broadway musical. I did enjoy the movie rendition of Les Mis, but I had seen that on stage. It’s funny how years and years ago musical movies were a big thing and now there aren’t very many of them at all.
I can’t wait to see this! Hopefully this weekend. I love musicals… besides, I’d see this if for no other reason than — Johnny Depp! 🙂
I know I”ll watch this, but it will probably be once it’s released on home video. My car pooped out on me so I’m mostly stuck at home now!
Okay, we did go see it this past weekend… LOVED it! I love musicals and this one was amazing!
We have yet to see this movie but are looking forward to watching it as a family soon. Hopefully we can fit it in this weekend!
