Despite some news outlets (I’m looking at you, Daily Mail) rigorously reporting about the spread of the Zika virus, there are still a lot of misconceptions about the way the virus spreads and whether an outbreak is a possibility. The Zika virus is still causing a lot of problems around the globe, which is why it is important to take the time to learn more about the virus.
For starters, Zika is a virus transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes. According to the University of Arizona and its master of public health department, there is still no vaccine for the virus. Early treatment helps to prevent death and painful symptoms, but it doesn’t eradicate the virus completely. That said, organizations and research facilities in the US and other parts of the world are working together to fight further spread and find a vaccine.
