Let’s be honest. Everyone sure is going to look busy on moving day, but we all know who is actually going to be busy on moving day – and that’s Mamma.
So we’ve developed a little survival guide, designed especially for you Mom, to make your moving day as hassle-free as possible. We’re not saying it’s going to be perfect, we’re not promising light at the end of the tunnel, but we think we might have made one of the most stressful days possible, a little less so.

First up, BE PREPARED
So you’ve known that moving day was coming for a while, right? So there is no excuse for not being prepared. There are tons of online resources that can help you with endless checklists and templates to make your moving day as easy as possible.
In addition to the ‘regular stuff,’ there are a few nice to have that can also make your moving day as stress-free as possible.
For example, keep out a basket of cleaning materials to give your house the once over – remember that you may be moving, but your ex-neighbors are not, and you never want to be those people.
Then, if you have tiny humans be sure and keep a few of their favorite toys, coloring books, or activities to hand, and dedicate a space for them in the garden or somewhere safe where they’ll be out of the way, but still under your eye.
FOOD, GLORIOUS FOOD!
Moving day has a way of activating hunger receptors in everyone’s brain that didn’t exist before and you do not want to be the ‘cook’ right now. So, everyone gets to choose their favorite food beforehand, and this is then delivered, remember to make sure that whatever is left over is disposed of properly.
DOUBLE-CHECK, THEN TRIPLE CHECK YOUR MOVING COMPANY
Whether you’re moving locally, across the state, or abroad, your moving company will be the cause of a day worth remembering or a day you’d do anything to forget. Companies like Allied Van Lines have years of experience in dealing with moves within the United States and beyond and if you started planning for your move in advance, you should include a financial plan for this. You’ll be so glad that you did.
MOMMY’S LITTLE HELPERS
Involve your kids. This house was as much theirs as it was yours, so let them get involved in cleaning up, packing their things, and then let them say goodbye to the house before you leave.
Then, there’s Mommy’s other helper. OK, so this one can be for both parents because if you’re smart, you’ll remember to leave two bottles of Champagne in the fridge, one for your plus one to toast your home goodbye and leave behind some good vibes – and one for the new owners to pick up from you left off. It’s not easy being an amazing woman, but someone has to do it.
PLAN YOUR FINANCES IN ADVANCE
If you have a few months before moving day, plan your finances in advance to allow for things like specialist cleaning companies to give your home the once over when you’re finally out, or landscapers to do the garden.
Moving day doesn’t have to be a killer, you’re a mom – you can do anything!
