An Update on Us….It’s Been a Week!

Yesterday was exactly a week that we have been in the new house. I unloaded about seven more boxes just yesterday. It’s amazing how much stuff we have, kind of ridiculous really.

(all that clutter on the island is going to drive me insane!)

How does one family accumulate so  much?

The move was a little rough….Not everything fit into the truck, so we had to get a trailer and then it still didn’t fit. We left some stuff behind, threw away some stuff and put 2 car loads into storage. Yes – we still have stuff in storage in our old home town. Ughh!

We got to the new house around 9:30pm last Thursday and my husband went out to Walmart and bought some blow up mattresses to sleep on. I wanted to stay at the house with the kittens as opposed to a hotel room.

Friday, when the men came to unload the truck, we had the painter here as well, painting the house! It was a hectic, but good day.

(look how cute Savannah’s room turned out!)

Now a week later, we are settling in. Hunter started his new school and likes his new teachers and friends. He likes playing the woods. 🙂 Savannah is getting used to the house and being home with mommy. I feel like I should be working, but am enjoying my time with Savannah.

(Hunter’s dark room)

Savannah will start VPK, a state funded pre-kindergarten, in August and I may go back to work then, if not sooner. I am so not use to being home all this time. But it’s good I have the time to unpack and meet the neighbors.

The garage has the most boxes to unpack. I’m holding off on most of this, until we can get some more shelving. We also need to get a dining room table and a TV for the living room.Oh and a bed for Savannah.

My favorite part of the house? My foyer, silly…but at the old house I never had one. The front door opened into the living room. I love this!

We found a table at Pier One that we both like…. what do you think?

It’s kinda an old farmhouse type table, that could seat up to eight people. I like it cause it doesn’t have a leaf in it and it’s kinda simple. They have some really cool chairs too.

It’s Almost Time!

We are moving this week. It has been a a hectic, stressful last several months!

We had the stress of whether or not we would qualify for a second mortgage. I question our sanity for even thinking of doing this!

Then we had to get a renter and lease signed before we could close.

Now we are almost packed and have to load up and move!

We went up this past weekend and found this tire swing in the woods near the park – cool.

I have to say, I haven’t slept much these past few weeks. I can’t wait until we are moved and mostly unpacked and I can finally get back into a routine with the family.

I have and will have a few more guest posts during all this transition. Please enjoy them and bare with me. I have some cool “green” posts in store…

Our New Home… w/w

We are moving next month to Ponte Vedra, Fl, near Jacksonville. It will be about 5 hours north of where we are right now.

Okay it’s not ready yet, but here a few pictures of work in progress. This first one is us on the land back in August.

This last one is the latest picture. It’s not painted yet on the outside. It should be all ready for us at the end of February. We are super excited!!

In Need of a Job?

I’ll be leaving my job of almost 12 years next month. It’s not because I’m dissatisfied, but we are moving five hours north. But there have been times in the last twelve years I’ve thought about another job, I’m sure I’m not the only one to do this.

I wish I would have found out about Global Response earlier. I think I would have at least gone on an interview. They have customer service call centers that work with many wonderful companies like, Crate & Barrel, National Geographic, Blue Cross Blue Shield and JC Penny, just to name a few.

What is a call center? When you call a company, like your insurance company, you get put through to a call center. Things can happen fast at a call center, there lots of employees answering the phones at the same time.  When I make calls to insurance companies I can sometimes hear others in the background. Everyone is usually very polite.

I was checking out Global Response and see they offer good benefits and on-site child-care. This would be a HUGE benefit for me. My daughter is only a few minutes away from me now, but to have her on site would be awesome! They have a 401k, which I would love to have had at my current job. Health and dental benefits are offered, as well as vacation, sick and personal time. They have picnics, team spirit days and it sounds like they really care about their employees. Check this out- after 20 years, you get a trip for two anywhere in the world.

Maybe I should re-think my move! Just kidding…

Their main headquarters are located in South Florida, and they have two smaller call centers in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. If you’ve ever thought about customer service careers and live in these areas, check them out!
After our move, I am hoping to take some time off working outside the home and really focus on my blog. Savannah will be going to pre-kindergarten in August, so I may get a part time job then. Maybe there is something similar in Jacksonville.
