Waterpik EcoFlow Shower Head Giveaway #EcoFlow

I love a nice long hot shower, who doesn’t right? But taking those long showers are not great for our finances or the environment. We do just about everything  we can to be more eco-friendly. It was a challenge in the beginning, but comes natural now. One thing we did not change was our shower heads. I’ve been meaning to, but just never did.

Check out the Waterpik EcoFlow shower head we got to try out!

These Waterpik EcoFlow shower heads are made to save water and money without sacrificing your shower! The flow of water through the water channels and nozzles is optimized by the OptiFlow technology. Which basically means you save a gallon of water per minute, but still get a great shower!

WaterPik is partnering with Wyland Foundation’s national “Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation” in celebration of Earth Month, encouraging people to take the pledge to save water throughout April.

The Mayor’s Challenge is a friendly competition between residents of cities across the U.S., in which mayors will be asking their residents to make a free, online pledge to conserve water, save money and reduce pollution. Residents in the cities with the most participants will qualify to win hundreds of prizes, including Waterpik® EcoFlow® shower heads.

Will you take the pledge to save water? One thing you can do that’s super easy is turn the water off while brushing your teeth. Encourage your kids to the same!

So we’ve had the shower head up for about a week and while I love that I’m saving money and doing good by  the environment, I kinda feel like I’m in a cheap hotel with not enough water pressure. Which is what it’s supposed to be, but….Sometimes I want a  stronger shower, you know?

I love that I can take off the head and use it to get the shampoo out of my daughter’s hair. It’s much easier to do. So I will keep the Waterpik EcoFlow shower head, but I will place it in the kids bathroom. They take longer showers anyway and the savings will be more there!

Check out EcoFlow’s Facebook page.

Would you like to try it out? One Mommy Has to Work will win the Waterpick EcoFlow shower head, valued at $51.99. See below for details.

I received the above product for review purposed from Mom Select. Opinions are my own.

Earth Day Crafts

Earth Day is almost here and I decided to have a little craft party with the neighbors and their children.

I saved up our toilet paper rolls and went to the craft store and bought some stickers, paint, necklace string and glue. We had some sea shells around the house and used those as well.

I looked up different crafts to make and asked my mother in law. I came up with pencil holders, napkin rings and shell necklaces.

For the napkin holders, I cut the roll into fours. We painted all pretty colors and placed shells on some and stickers on others and left some plain.

The pencil holders were pretty easy too. We decorated one roll and let dry, then glued it to another scrap square of cardboard.

As for the necklaces, I wanted a necklace with a clasp, but could not find them at my local craft store, so I went with string. We found lots of pretty shells while visiting the beach this week. Many had holes in them and everyone got to pick their favorite shell, place it through the string and viola! A pretty shell necklace!

Making Your Family Dog More Green-Friendly – Guest Post

This is a partnered guest post.

Most people who have a dog are quick to consider their pet a bona fide member of the family. Our dogs sit in the kitchens with us while we eat dinner. They come on family roadtrips. They annoy and inconvenience us at times, but we will always love them nevertheless. It’s not too difficult to understand why some people equate getting a dog with having a baby.

But dogs are members of our families in less positive ways as well. For example, they contribute their fair share to a family’s collective carbon footprint. One recent study, determined that a medium sized dog carries an annual carbon footprint of about 2.1 acres, an amount larger than that of astandard SUV. Fido’s footprint pales in comparison to ours, of course, but that shouldn’t let him off the hook as far as eco-friendliness is concerned. There’s just one problem: while us humans have the ability to understand the environmental ramifications of our actions, dogs possess no such capacity. On this note, while we would prefer Fido to start recycling on his own accord, it is ultimately the responsibility of the owner to decrease a dog’s footprint. Here are a few tips for doing just that:

-Turn waste into fertilizer. When a dog does his business, the average owner will pick up the droppings and deposit them in the trash. This adds countless plastic bags and piles of dog poop to landfills every year. A better method is to take those droppings and use them as fertilizer in the garden. The droppings will naturally decompose and the soil will benefit as a result.

-Reduce meat consumption. The meat that dogs eat – whether in their food or in scraps from the table – reflects their greatest carbon footprint contribution.  Reducing meat consumption, consequently, can help you dogs quickly become greener. This can be done by seeking out low-meat or no-meat dog foods at the store.

-Be efficient with energy use. Upon leaving the house, many dog owners will keep the lights on and the AC turned up so as to insure Fido’s optimal comfort. This is generally unnecessary since dogs can handle non-ideal temperatures better than humans, but if you’re committed to your pet’s comfort you can instead use a timer or a home automation system to manage your electricity consumption in an efficient and Fido-friendly way.

These are just a few tips for reducing your dog’s carbon footprint and helping even the furriest member of your family go green. While Fido may not drive a gas-guzzling car to work every day, he still is a member of the family and he still (in all likelihood) has room for improvement on the eco-friendly front.

Clean+Green Products Review

Earth Day is right around the corner!! And while I love promoting “green” products for Earth Day, I enjoy doing it all year round!

I was able to review several products from Clean+Green,  all-natural pet odor and stain removers. Clean+Green gives instant results in a safe, non-toxic, eco-friendly, hypoallergenic and fragrance free solution. The only way in my house as I have allergies to perfume, have kids and pets!! And a huge plus that it’s good for the planet too!

Clean+Green products work on a variety of surfaces including wood, tile, carpets, upholstery, concrete and even litter boxes. And yeah – the packaging is sustainable and 100% recyclable!

Since I have cats, I asked to review the Clean+Green litter box cleaner and odor eliminator. You can use it to help with messes and odors around the litter box. I’ve used to to spray on top to mask odors. Don’t worry about it harming your kitties as it is made from environmentally friendly, natural cleaning ingredients and packaged to recycle the container.

I’ll spare you a picture of my littler box!! But sometimes it just  – WOW – what is that smell?

I also received a carpet cleaner that I passed on to my mother, as my cats do not make messes on my carpets. My two cats that passed away last year, now they made messes, but these new kittens do not.

Any way, my mother’s dog ALWAYS makes messes!!! This stuff works for dogs too.

The carpet cleaner  “really works’ said my mom the first time she used it. She even took pictures! I did not post the first picture of the “offense”. Really? Did I need to see it? It’s made entirely from non-toxic botanicals, this is safe for pets, people and environment. My mother commented on how quick and easy it worked.

The “after” picture looks pretty good! She says she can’t tell  where the offense happened now that it has dried.

Check out Clean+Green on Facebook and Twitter too!
