Disney and Pixar’s ONWARD is available to buy digitally and on Movies Anywhere for $19.99 and on Disney+ on April 3rd in the U.S.

In ONWARD, teenage elf brothers Ian and Barley Lightfoot (voices of Tom Holland and Chris Pratt) get an unexpected opportunity to spend one more day with their late dad, embarking on an extraordinary quest aboard Barley’s epic van Guinevere. Like any good quest, their journey is filled with magic spells, cryptic maps, impossible obstacles and unimaginable discoveries. But when the boys’ fearless mom Laurel (voice of Julia Louis-Dreyfus) realizes her sons are missing, she teams up with a part-lion, part-bat, part-scorpion, former warrior – aka The Manticore (voice of Octavia Spencer) – and heads off to find them. Perilous curses aside, this one magical day could mean more than any of them ever dreamed.

Check out the below activity and coloring sheets to print for the kids to get them excited!

How to support a disabled elderly relative

If you have a relative who is elderly and disabled, they may struggle to perform the basic tasks that are needed in everyday life. It can be hard seeing a relative struggling, and you will want to support them in any way you can. Due to our increasingly aging population, many elderly people are struggling to receive the support they require. Increasing demand means that we need to be more present than ever before. So, how can you support a disabled elderly relative? Increasing demand means that we need to be more present than ever before. So, how can you support a disabled elderly relative? First of all, you may want to look into services that offer home healthcare in Tucson, or wherever your relative is based, so you can get the right type of help. After that, you’ll be able to plan the next steps for supporting your relative.

Legal assistance

If your relative gained their disability through unfortunate circumstances, they may wish to seek legal assistance. For example, if the disability has developed after serving in the military, they may be entitled to compensation (see these VA compensation rates). Your relative may also be entitled to compensation if they had a slip and fall injury, or gained their disability from the malpractice of a company. If this is the case, you may need to support your elderly relative through this process. This might mean finding them a lawyer, attending meetings on their behalf, or simply letting them know that you’re there if they need you. They may not ask for help, but your support will be appreciated.

Check in

Elderly people can often feel isolated and lonely, especially if they live on their own and don’t have someone to talk to regularly. So, it’s important for you to check in on them and provide any emotional support that they might need. This might mean popping round regularly if you can, or contacting them via phone or email. This is especially important when an elderly relative has a disability, because you need to make sure that they are coping and taking any necessary medication.

Adjusting their home

When people get older or gain a disability, it’s common for them to need adjustments to their home, so they can navigate around it more easily. For example, if your relative needs a wheelchair, they might need lowered light-switches, wider doorframes and a downstairs bedroom to avoid navigating the stairs at night. Or their home might need a stair-lift to be installed. Whilst there are professionals who will be doing the heavy lifting, it’s important for you to assist with any adaptations your relative might need and help them get the ball rolling. Your relative will probably feel a close connection to their home, and therefore it’s important for you to understand that this may be a difficult time for them.

Household tasks

Your elderly relative may also need additional help around the house. What once might have seemed like an easy task could be much harder with a disability. Tasks like cooking, cleaning and even getting dressed could be significantly more difficult. So, you can support your elderly relative by helping them around the house and offering any additional assistance. Even going around once a week to do some cleaning might be a big help. Alternatively, you might need to help organize carers, if this is something they require. All American Home Care is a great home care agency in philadelphia that can be beneficial for your relative at this time, or you can look closer to home.

Tips For Surviving the Sandwich Generation

If you are currently responsible for caring for your elderly parents while trying to look after your own children, you’re officially a part of the sandwich generation. This is a time in almost every adult’s life that can be challenging, emotional, and frustrating. You are being pulled in all directions, are carrying the responsibility of two (if not more) people. You might not have time to catch your breath.

Here are some tips to help you get through it.

Plan ahead

If you are not quite in the sandwich generation period of your life, but you can see it looming on the horizon, start planning now.

Save up money for childcare or home care. You can find quality assistance throughout the contrary, from assisted living in California, to home care in League City. There is no doubt that you are going to need a helping hand, so you might as well ask for assistance in advance.

It may sound bleak, but it is also worthwhile speaking to your parents about their estate planning needs and their wishes for their care in case they become mentally or physically incapacitated.

Communicate with your employer

The worst thing that you can do is try to conceal your home-life situation from your boss. Be upfront and honest regarding your responsibilities. In this way, you are almost certain to have his or her support if ever you need to leave work early in an emergency.

Seek out support

Taking care of your children in conjunction with an elderly loved one can take a lot out of you. It is mentally and physically exhausting, and definitely isn’t something that you should do alone.

Luckily, there are multiple support groups out there specifically for individuals that are trying to survive the sandwich generation. These support groups are either in-person or online. You are likely to be surprised at just how big of a difference talking to others in similar situations will have on your overall mood and outlook!

Ways To Help Protect You And Your Family In Life

Looking after your family is going to be important to you as a parent and partner. We want to do all we can, and that is in our power to keep them safe. Although life is unexpected and sometimes cruel, here are some ways to help protect you and your family in life.

Protect Your Children When They’re On The Web

Protecting your children is essential when they’re on the web. Your child may access the web to play games or watch videos, you have to be extra vigilant as there may be chat rooms on certain sites they are accessing. If your child is into racing games then why not sit with them and watch as they race along tracks in other worlds. It will be great bonding time for you and them.  Unfortunately, as the digital age and the internet itself advances, you will likely become less aware of what’s on the internet and what’s easily accessible. It might come as a surprise that your children find ways of getting onto sites that they shouldn’t be on or having conversations with complete strangers. This might seem scary, but it’s a small fraction of the internet that’s dangerous, otherwise, it can have so many benefits. To help protect those who are young and use the web, try installing software to put a time limit on how often and when they can use it. You may also want to look at getting some parental controls in place to help block any sites that you know exist or may contain things that are not supposed to be viewed or used by young children.

Boost Your Home Security

With your home, it’s a place that’s meant to keep you safe from harm. However, it’s not like a prison or vault, where it’s virtually impossible to break in or out. Therefore, you want to add some security measures in this regard to help boost home security. This could be adding CCTV to your home and having access to this on your phone or electronic devices. A lot of these new systems will have the ability to do this, so you can keep watch over your home even when you’re not in the property. Whenever you’re in your home, keep the front and back doors locked unless the outside areas are completely fenced off. If your fence isn’t high enough, or it has been subjected to wear and tear over the years, you may want to think about getting a new fence to ensure that you have the utmost privacy. When you leave your property, remember to lock windows and doors, and have someone you trust check your property whenever something gets flagged on the CCTV and you’re not available to assess the situation yourself.

Improve Your Driving When On The Road

One of the most dangerous things that can affect you in your life is driving. Unfortunately, you can be the safest driver, but if you get distracted or you happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, you could find yourself in a car accident. This is something you’ll then want to get help with, and speaking to The Derrick Law Firm might be a good way of solving these accidents and getting financial rewards for it too. But no one wants to ever get into a car or vehicle accident. So to avoid this, try to improve your driving when you’re on the road. Obey the speed limits, and if you have any concerns about having to drive faster on particular roads, try to choose alternative options so you can keep to a speed that you’re comfortable with. It’s important for the safety of yourself and others who are on the road too.

Look After Your Money With A Budget

Getting yourself into debt is dangerous, and one thing that you don’t want happening when you have a household and children that rely on you for food, shelter, and other things that cost money in life. Being able to look after your money is important, and one way to do that is by managing it with a budget. Budgets are easy to make up when you have a spare moment, and they can be helpful when you’re trying to save on your finances. Create a budget on a spreadsheet and note down all those things that cost you money and come out of your household account each month and then be sure you’ve got enough money coming in to make those expenditures and to at least have some money left over in order to save where you can. Having savings is always important because it can come in handy when you have emergencies happen, and it ends up being a financial problem that needs paying as soon as possible.

Help Your Kids Learn the Value of Money

It’s all very well keeping your finances on a tight budget and ensuring you never go into debt – this is a great way to protect your family from stress and money worries. However, if you truly want to protect your family in the long term, it’s just as important that your children learn how they will eventually need to do this for themselves. Of course, they’ll be learning math as part of their education, but try to find ways to link these lessons with real-world situations. Use a fractions calculator to break down their pocket money, so they know exactly what percentage of their ‘earnings’ they’re spending on different little things! Becoming comfortable and aware of looking after their money from a young age is a fantastic way to prepare your kids for their own independent lives, keeping them protected even after they’ve grown up and moved away from home.

Soften the water at home

A large majority of homes are supplied with what’s commonly known as hard water. In short, this means the water has a high mineral content and usually contains a lot of calcium and magnesium. While not totally unsafe, hard water can present a risk to you, your family, and your home. Mainly, it causes limescale to build around plumbing fixtures, which can be a financial annoyance as you need to keep paying for repairs. From a health perspective, washing with hard water can cause eczema and other skin conditions. This can be painful or irritating for you and your kids, which is one of the main reasons you should think about softening the water at home. It’s easy to do; most people use a water softener service that will sort everything out for them. Effectively, you’ll have a system in place that softens your water as it is supplied to your home, ensuring you don’t have to worry about any skincare or health issues.

Looking after your household is done in many ways, and if you can at least follow through with the tips above, then the protection of your family will be in a much better place because of it.
