You may be fooled into thinking there is virtually nothing left in this life for free other than love, and even that can be costly at times!  However, this is most certainly not the case. There are several fun, frugal and fantastic activities you can participate in. You’ll be surprised how many free opportunities there are at your disposal.

So pull up a chair, grab a coffee and take a look at our best ten suggestions for you to try this weekend.  You won’t be disappointed and might even be surprised at the positive impact this has on your life:

1. Get your finances in order

Okay, you may not think this is going to be much fun at first glance, but give it a chance!

We all lead busy, stressful lives and lurch from month to month without much of a clue what we are spending our hard earned wages on.  Use this opportunity to find out, and shop around to ensure you are getting your moneys-worth on everyday household essentials.

One example is your car insurance.  It’s so quick and easy to compare a number of insurers at the same time using australian car insurance comparison websites.  You could be saving hundreds of dollars simply by clicking a few buttons.  What’s not fun about that?

2. Check out Podcasts and Audiobooks

Switch off the TV, turn off the music, and instead give podcasts and audiobooks a chance.  There is a wealth of current news and opinion, comedy, literature and clips from your favourite radio shows readily available.

3. Play a board game

Take advantage of a rainy afternoon, snuggle up together and dust off the board games that probably haven’t seen the light of day for at least a decade.  You might be surprised how much fun you have without the need of any electrical appliances.  Who would have thought that was possible?

4. Take a long walk

Go and explore your local area by walking instead of driving to a destination this weekend.  Pop in and say ‘hi’ to the neighbours, and try to spot unusual birds and wildlife on your travels.

5. Bake

It’s always amazing how just mixing a few basic ingredients together can result in something tasty and delicious.  If you’re new to baking, start off with something simple like cupcakes or cookies, they’ll be a delicious (and cheap) treat in your lunch pack during the week and a tasty reminder of the fun weekend you just had.

6. Make a life plan

Write down any goals you would like to achieve over the next 5 years – however impossible they seem at the time.  Visualise these goals by cutting pictures from magazines that represent your dreams.  If you are making a conscious effort to save money, regularly reviewing your life plan will remind you exactly what you are making all the effort for.

7. Take some beautiful photographs

The past is history, the future’s a mystery but today is a gift that’s why they call it the present. Capture each special moment by taking photographs and sharing them with friends and family to remind you all of the good things in life.

8. Go to the library or museum

Most towns and cities offer free days and events at museums and libraries. Pay them a visit or check online to see what is happening in your local area.

9. Make a YouTube instructional video

Making a YouTube video is a fun way to share your thoughts and creative endeavors with a worldwide audience. You never know, it may just go viral and earn you a few dollars in the process.

10. Rearrange a room in your house

Careful placement of the furniture in any room goes a long way to making the space feel welcoming, comfortable and stylish, but it is one of those jobs that usually falls way down on people’s list of priorities. Try your furniture in a few different places to optimise the light and space within your room.
