My First Attempt at Cake Pops!

I’ve been wanting to make these for a while now and finally took the plunge and tried it out! I bought a regular cake mix and vanilla frosting and some pretty pink and blue chocolate melts. Savannah picked the colors.

I checked a few websites for instructions and found Bakerella.com and ehow.com for the best for the info.

First step is to bake the cake per box instructions and let cool. When cool break up the cake into crumbs.

Then add a can of frosting to the crumbs. The on-line instructions said not to add all the frosting at once. You don’t want to have to much. (I think mine could have had less)

You can chill the mixture or go right into making balls. I placed the balls on wax paper and placed in the freezer to get nice and firm.

Meanwhile you’ve got to get your chocolate melting. I’ve done chocolate candies in the past and thought I knew what I was doing!! lol ( I’ve since learned that adding a little bit of Crisco to the chocolate will help smooth it out and be creamy)

After the cake balls are firm, place a lollipop stick in the chocolate then into the ball and freeze again. Then dip the cake pop into the chocolate. Mine was not so creamy, so my cake pops were not smooth. After dipping place the pop upside down, or in a Styrofoam square to cool and harden.

Everyone loved the cake pops. I served them to some friends at a party. I just wish they looked as good as these!!

I will attempt them again and will learn from my mistakes.

Have you made cake pops yet? How did they turn out?

You Scream, I Scream…Ice Cream!!!

Summer is here and bring on the heat! It has been so hot, it kinda makes me want to just stay indoors and chill.

What makes a hot day better? Ice Cream!!

Since our move I have not seen an ice cream truck driving around. But in our old neighborhood, the ice cream truck routinely made it’s way to our “hood” all the time! It’s always fun to run out and yell, “the ice cream truck is coming!!!”

This summer we will have to buy ours at the store…. That’s okay, there are some new and fun flavors there!

Breyers is always a favorite in this house. My hubby is a sucker for the Vanilla Fudge Twirl. But have you tried the new Breyer’s Blast flavors? I’ve gotten the Golden Oreo Cookies and Cream before and it was pretty good, But I’m really looking forward to trying the Banana Split! My hubby and just split one of those last week. We haven’t done that in years! The S’mores look pretty good too! My favorite thing about Breyers Ice Cream? I can read the ingredients!

Good Humor has two new flavors –  Mounds and York Peppermint Pattie Ice Cream Bars. I just got the York Peppermint Patties this weekend – peppermint flavored  ice cream dipped in a dark chocolate flavored coating. Oh my!! It was wonderful!!

Have you tried Magnum Ice Cream Bars? There are only 3 to a box, but they are wonderful! This is one you don’t want to share with the kids! My son picked them out and he ended up eating all 3!! Poo!

Popsicle has partnered up with yogurt to come up with Yosicle. We tried the Yosicle Layerz. I was not too impressed with these. They are still sitting in the freezer.

I like the good old Fudgesicle better!! So does Savannah!

Klondike has the Chocolate Choco Taco and the Peanut Butter Choco Taco. How good does that sound?

————————————————————–

Have you tried any of these new flavors? has it improved your summer heat?

I received coupons to try the above ice creams. Opinions are my own.
