Where is all of our garbage ??

That’s what my husband said tonight when he was taking the trash out to the road.
Well, we’ve been recycling more and more. We’re putting our fruit and veggie peels in the compost, as well as the coffee grinds. I’ve been more conscience of everyday paper, now that we’re recycling paper at work, so more paper goes to recycle. The styrofoam I use to throw away, I’m taking to Publix to recycle. We don’t use as many paper plates and bowls, either.
We do have more to take out on Sunday for recycling day, though!!

Terracycle

Another thing I’m doing to help the environment is collecting these items for Terracycle. Terracycle is a company that makes totes, lunch boxes, purse and more, from recycled materials. I saw them on Planet Green ( a new channel on Directv) and went to their website to see what it was about. I signed up to be a collector. In return for the wrappers and juice pouches Terracycle will donate $.02 per wrapper/pouch to my son’s school. They want me to send in 50-100 at a time, so I’ve been asking friends and family to help collect. I want to buy one their products- maybe I’ll ask for one for Christmas. 🙂

Any way, check it out, maybe you can sign up too. They limit their collectors so act fast!!

To Compost or Not

All right, we finally did it. We started a compost!!
I read about, seen it on TV and talked to my husband about it. Then over the weekend we had a huge fruit salad and lots of grinds and peels and we decided to do it.
We took a Rubbermaid container we had in the garage, made sure we had a tight fitting lid for it. Then hubby drilled holes in the top and bottom.
It’s not so bad so far. I’ll let you know how it goes.
