I told you how I am recycling cans and bottles at work, well now I am getting everyone to put paper products in a box, instead of the trash, to recycle. We already recycle the backs of paper for reports and scrap paper, so I’ve been getting strange looks. One person asked, “so, why are you doing this?” Another co-worker piped up “she’s saving the planet for her kids and their kids”. I just laughed. I feel good about doing it and I know it’s the right thing to do.
Going Green and Being Frugal
I don’t know about you, but I have been paying my bill on line. I still get paper statements, because I’m afraid I might miss a bill if I go paperless.
Well, I have all these envelopes from my bills!! I’ve been recycling them and using them for other things. For example, my son needs lunch money and instead of using a ‘new ‘ envelope, I just write his name on the front of a recycled envelope. (Make sure there’s not a window for money to fall out!) If I need an envelope to put coupons in to got the store or send the teacher a note, I just use a recycled envelope.
Let me know what you recycle!!
Going Green @ Work
In my earlier post about going green, I forgot to mention that last Monday I sent out an inner office e-mail to everyone asking them to save their cans and bottles and anything else recyclable and I would take it home and recycle it.
Well, Friday I came home with a very full bag!! Everyone seems to want to help. Maybe I’ll even start with the magazines and papers, we’ll see.
To Compost or Not?
Okay, so I’m thinking about starting a compost. I read about starting one on The Frugal Girl and it sounds easy enough. I don’t have a garden to use it on yet, but I plan to start one ( I’ve been planning one since we bought our house eight years ago). I also like the idea of less waste in our garbage ( going green!!). But, do I really want a tub of smelly food on the side of my house? I don’t know, I’ll let you know what I decide to do. Anyone else have one?
Going Green
It’s the lastest rage, right?
Going green.
Well, it’s the right thing to do for the environment and can be very frugal as well. Which is right up my alley. Here’s what we’re trying to do….
* We no longer buy water bottles. One by one, we bought PBA free reuseable bottles at the store and now only use those. We have four good ones, and one that I put in the dishwasher on the bottom shelf, don’t do this!! It mishapes the bottle!! It’s still useable, but the top is harder to get on and off.
* We use less paper plates. We have regualar dishes, but paper was always easier to clean up with. Well, now we only use paper occasionally. I’m still training my son not use paper bowls for snacks. I even put plastic bowls on top of the paper bowls so it’s easier for him.
* We recycle. We did before, but now I look at everything to see if there is a recycle symbol on it. I’ve found more items to recycle (contact lens cases, chip bags)
* We use cloth shopping bags (when we remember!!) I’m getting better.
* Use less paper towels. I bought some cheap washclothes a Target and use them more often.
What have you done to be green? Let me know, I’d love to learn more ways.
