Life With Lily – Book Review

A winner for Suzanne Woods Fisher and Mary Ann Kinsinger!!

While reading Life with Lily, I felt like I was living right there with Lily! This story was told in a child’s tone. A very easy read. I could have read it to my children and they would have understood it.

Lily Lapp is a six year old Amish girl who has to plenty to do and plenty to learn. There are many changes that happen to Lily’s life – a new baby in the family, starting school and moving. Life can be challenging for a little girl.

I can’t wait to read about Lily’s next chapter in life in the new book book A Home for Lily, coming in February 2013.
About the book:

Lily is six in this story, just starting first grade in a one-room schoolhouse in upstate New York. Her parents are busy building a farm, and soon animals join the family—Jenny the cow and Chubby the miniature horse. A baby brother arrives, too, which Lily has mixed feelings about. (She wanted a sister!) Aside from a mischievous friend like Mandy Mast, Lily is happy at school and even happier at home. Trouble is brewing at the schoolhouse and change is on the horizon for Lily and her family

Suzanne Woods Fisher lives with her family in the San Francisco Bay Area. She has one husband, four children, one son-in-law, a brand new grand-baby, and a couple of dogs. She graduated from Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California. Suzanne has contracts with Revell for six more books about the Amish, both fiction and non-fiction. She is also the host of “Amish Wisdom·” on toginet.com, a weekly radio program featuring guests who are connected to Simple Living.

FTD College Rose Collection Review & Giveaway

There are currently 50 participating NCAA schools (with more being added!), and you can see all of the arrangements at http://www.ftd.com/college/. Coinciding with the beginning of the school year, FTD is currently offering the College Roses Collection at $15 off each order for a limited time on their site.

The flowers are handcrafted and of exceptional quality, each floral arrangement combines bi-colored roses in an intensive individual petal coloring process presented in a school-logoed vase.

I was lucky enough to to sample a dozen roses from FTD! When I looked over the colleges, FSU was not on the list and even though my high school mascot was the Gator, I did not want to bring Gators flowers in a FSU house. (Well I did, I like to taunt the boys.) I choose Penn State as this is the team my parents love and I grew up with.

The package arrived in a Penn State box with a Penn State vase and beautiful blue and white roses! The vase was a little hard to cut out, but once that was done I added water and the flower food that was provided. I then cut the roses and added to the vase!
We had those roses for over a week and half. When more than half of them wilted, I took the remaining and placed in a smaller vase to enjoy even longer. I even use the petals to have my daughter practice being a flower girl!!

See FTD on Facebook and Twitter.

Simply Potatoes…

Sometimes making dinner is a pain. Don’t get me wrong I love a good homemade meal, but all the prep work and get me down a bit.

There is some things you can do to make it easier on yourself, like already made mashed potatoes. Have you tried them? My mom makes instant potatoes, but I like the already made kind better.

We received a couple coupons to purchase Simply Potatoes. They were BOGO at Publix so I got 2 free!! Score!

We made out usual chicken and mashed potatoes and corn dinner. This is a favorite in our house. We eat it about once a week. BUT, this time I used Simply Potatoes instead of the homemade kind.

Let’s just say that we had to open the second package, because the first one was quickly eaten!

The kids loved it, hubby liked it and I liked it!! Yeah!

Will I buy it again? Probably… my hubby loves to make his own, but I can see me buying them on sale to make dinner a little easier.

Do you use Progressive for your auto insurance? Well whether you do or not, you can #TrySnapShot and see if you clarify for a discount in your rates.

How does the Snapshot Test Drive Program it work? Progressive has a patented data collection program called Snapshot. You plug in the devise into the on-board diagnostic in their car. This will collect data like mileage and how hard the brakes are used. After 30 days, progressive will calculate the data and may be able to offer a discount up to 30%.

I found put where to plug mine in, right under the steering wheel. I’ve had it in for 3 weeks now. I’ve heard it beep 3 times when I braked too hard. But according to my weekly emails I am eligible for a discount. My current grade is a B+!!

So where do I go all day?

Monday, Wednesday and Friday I take my daughter to Pre-k, then hit the gym. After my workout it’s home to work. Then around 2:30, off to pick up my daughter and sometime my son, if he goes to the YMCA.  The rest of week we may go out to run some errands.

Keen Darby Boots

My daughter loves to wear boots. We live in Florida, so boots are not really necessary except for style. Savannah’s first boots were tiny pink ones and so cute. Then onto some black boots with purple flowers.

Now that she is almost 5 she is graduating to some really cool Keen Boots. These boots are super durable. These boots are made to play in! Our Keen Boots will be perfect for school and recess!

We received a pair of the Darby Boots in brown. Black was our first choice, Savannah loves everything in black. I was kinda glad we got the brown. I think they will look adorable with jeans. The bottoms of the boots are very thick and have a non-marking rubber outsole. The body of the boot is thick leather with plaid print. They slip on easily with a side zipper.

I’m going to check out the rest of the shoes on Keen. I may need to get Savannah some nice sandals come summer or maybe I’ll get mommy some nice shoes!!

The Darby Boots for girls retail for $70.00, but I can see these lasting all season long and more.

Visit on Facebook and Twitter too!
