Night Care Gel Heel Sock

Heel Socks

I am one of those people that always walk around barefoot. I guess from living in South Florida most of my life. I just love the feel of the grass on my feet. Unfortunately my feet don’t always look so pretty on my heels. They get dry and cracked more than I would like. I know a great way to fix that is putting cream on my heels and putting those comfy socks on. I own several pair of those white socks.

But….I can’t sleep with them on. My feet get all hot and I have to take them off in the middle of the night.

That’s why when I was sent a pair of Heel Socks to review I was so excited! There are no toes. Well I mean the socks do not cover my toes. So my toes can breath!

I received a NightCare Heel Treatment Kit to try. The kit came with a foot cream and some fancy leopard print heel socks. The heel of the socks are made out of Visco-GEL that provides deep softening and moisturizing of those hard and cracked heels. They have been tested by Dermatologists and have been deemed to deliver mineral oil to repair damaged skin.  No additional lotion or skin cream required, although you can use if you want to.

I love them! I can wear them all night. My toes breath and my heels are on their way to being beautiful again! It is a little weird walking on them as there is the gel in the heel. The socks come in one size fits most and sell for around $19. I already told my husband that I want another pair for Christmas, though not in leopard print. I’m a plain Jane kind of gal. But these do make me feel a little spicy when I wear them!! 🙂

Medical Alert Systems

 This is a sponsored post.

20130512_111056

My parents are getting older and I’ve begun to start worrying about them. My father and his wife are rarely apart so I’m not as worried about them but my mom, she lives by herself. I take that back, she has a roommate right now but you never know how that situation will play out. I wonder if I should sign her up for medial alert services.

My mom, Rachel, lives about 40 minutes south of us. She lives in a mobile home park with a ton of friends and neighbors around but it’s like the shoe is on the other foot and I worry about her more than she worries about me. Strange how that works. She is very active and actually has two small part times jobs taking care of ladies older than her. But she is diabetic and has been hospitalized three times in the last 7 years.

The first time was super scary. She had the flu and some stomach issues. She went in and we were told her kidneys were failing. While she was in she had a heart attach and suffered blood clots. She was in the hospital for three weeks! The second time was scheduled, a hip replacement. The third time, thankfully she had friends visiting and her blood pressure was not right and they took her to the ER. Her medications were not controlled properly by the doctors. She did not have to stay for that last time.

So of course I worry about her.

I asked my husband who is a retired firefighter/paramedic what he thought of  medical alarms. You know the ones that the seniors wear around like a necklace or bracelet. He thought they were a great idea. He worked in a high senior area and went on many calls as a result. His only negative was that the calls were not directly linked to 911. I can see how it’s a good thing and a bad thing. Responders wouldn’t need to go on calls that were only false alarms.

I honestly can’t see my mom wearing one at this time but I will be keeping in mind for the future.

Do you know anyone who wears a medical alert?

Reducing our Carbon Footprint: It is Working?

wind-farm-and-greenhouse-gas-farm-together

There are a variety of simple and not-so-simple things we can do to effectively reduce our carbon footprint. Some large projects such as dealing with wastewater require professional solutions.  Making minor modifications to our daily lives is something everyone can do to make the world a better, cleaner place.

Industrial Water and Wastewater

Industries such as power generation, oil and gas, minerals and metals, food and beverage and pulp and paper create wastewater that needs efficient and cost-effective solutions. Finding the right company to provide the right solutions is critical. Case studies have shown that it is possible to deliver a sustainable and environmentally friendly Wastewater treatment plant that minimizes environmental impact by recycling and treating cooling water which ensures low water consumption and that no contaminants reach local waterways after use.

Car

Don’t drive with such a heavy foot. Accelerate slowly, drive the posted speed limit and anticipate stops and starts. Published studies have shown that up to 30% of the difference in miles per gallon can be attributed to how a car is handled while driving. Make sure your car receives recommended maintenance updates so it runs efficiently. Keep tires inflated to the recommended levels and this alone can save 400-700 pounds of carbon dioxide per year. Buy a green vehicle, one that’s fuel-efficient or even electric.

Travel

Much of our carbon emissions can be reduced from our daily travels around town by giving our movements deliberate thought. Consider carpooling with the neighbors or saving up all your errands to run one day per week instead of running to the same store for things multiple times per week. Walk short distances instead of driving two blocks to get milk. If you own a bike, use pedal-power to get around town. See if you can work remotely from home a few days per week instead of commuting to the office every day.

Flights

Consider if it’s possible to combine multiple out-of-town trips and schedule meetings with more than one client when you’re away. Nonstop flights are better for emissions than ones with multiple stops. Stay at hotels that make efforts to be environmentally friendly and, while there, refuse daily towel replacements to save water.  Use the same towel for the few days of your stay.

Home

As appliances need replacing get Energy Star rated ones.  Compact fluorescent light bulbs save two-thirds of the energy of a regular incandescent bulb and can give you $40 plus in savings over its lifespan. Turn the faucet off while brushing your teeth, and if you live alone consider flushing the toilet every other time. When the need arises consider replacing windows with Energy Star rated ones.

Wedding

Use invitations made from recycled materials. Instead of having large flower centerpieces consider simple, understated arrangements or even re-use flowers from your ceremony at the reception. Serve food that is local, organic and seasonal which guarantees lowered carbon emissions because of the shorter distances traveled to reach your guests’ plates.

Life

Only buy what you’ll eat and finish produce before it goes bad. The less that goes into landfills the less methane gas is produced. Buy local goods, which will reduce the negative impacts of shipping. Call businesses and get removed from their junk mail lists. Recycle those old electronics instead of throwing them in a landfill. Eat more vegetables and less meat. Vegetarians save 3,000 pounds of carbon monoxide or more each year compared to meat eaters.

So there are many ways in which we can reduce our carbon footprint in daily life. As to whether it’s working, perhaps only time will tell. All we can know for sure is that every little helps and by making a few changes in your daily routine you can help reduce our global carbon footprint today.

Toys ‘R’ Us : Sponsored Video

This post is sponsored by Toys ‘R’ Us.

Christmas Tree

Christmas is coming and the kids get so excited about all the toys! Toys, toys and more toys. My kids have so many toys that I’m not sure I’m excited about more of them in my house. But I guess the term “toy” could be used to mean other items such as a phone, tablet, guitar, etc.

I’m focusing on more board games and electronics and maybe an airsoft gun this year. I’m going to try hard not to get too many “toys” but I also am looking at a Light Bright, which has all those little pieces and a flying fairy. A tablet or TV may be on the list as well….

Surpise

See how excited my son was to get this motorized scoter a few years ago?

My stepsons would get so excited to get fishing poles and bikes for Christmas. And the year we went out got all three of them Nintendo Game Boys, remember the original ones? I think we still have one. Oh how the objects under the tree have changed. But maybe not so much. I think my son would love a fishing pole too.

Aside from not wanting so many toys wouldn’t it be awesome to have your kids be part of a Toys ‘R’ Us shopping spree! The video above shows a group of kids thinking they are going on a field trip and instead head to Toys ‘R’ Us where they get to pick one toy of choice. I must admit I got a little teary eyes watching it. Watch it tell me if you got teary eyed..

What’s on your toy list this year?
