Disneynature: WINGS OF LIFE

Disneynature Wings Of Life Box Art

“In the chaos and craziness of our day-to-day lives, few of us stop to consider what’s happening behind the scenes in nature that makes our lives possible,” said Streep. “This film is a stunning adventure that literally takes flight alongside all kinds of winged creatures—butterflies, bees and bats—each working hard to pollinate our planet.”

I had the opportunity to review Wings of Life by Disneynature. What an awesome film!

A spectacular, closer-than-close, high-definition look at the intricate world of butterflies, hummingbirds, bees and bats, and their life-sustaining collaboration with flowers. Directed by Louie Schwartzberg (“America’s Heart & Soul”) and narrated by Academy Award® winner Meryl Streep.

My husband, daughter and I watched Wings of Life last Friday night and then again on Saturday morning. It’s amazing how they can film the bees and butterflies so close. And the hummingbirds, it’s like they were flying in place!

The film was narrated by Merly Streep and was told by the flowers perspective. The flower told  how the hummingbirds, bees, butterflies and bats all help keep the flowers alive and populating. I just loved all the close up shots. It was interesting to see the bats feeding on the nectar and later the fruit of the cactus flowers and fruit and how they carried their young while doing it.

While we were watching on Saturday my daughter was holding our cat, Spice. She says, “it’s okay Spice, it’s not real.” Then looks at me and says, “Is it real mommy or are they just dressed?” I hid a smile and told her yes it was real, they are not dressed up in costume.

I love this picture above. The bees pack on the pollen into pockets on their legs. Very cool! Some of the film had what must have been like flower cam. You could see the bugs coming at the flower from like the inside.

A very cool, interesting film that I highly recommend.

Look for Disneynature: WINGS OF LIFE on Blu-ray + DVD combo beginning April 16, 2013. (Bonus: It also includes a sneak peek at Disneynature’s BEARS, which will be released in 2014.)
