Protecting Your iPhone

This is a partnered guest post.

Everywhere you look you see people using an iPhone. Whether it’s the latest model, the iPhone 5, or one of the earlier versions, people seem to be glued to these little devices that are jam-packed with the latest technologies and have transformed the mobile phone market forever.

The device from Apple has even led to the current generation being called “the iPhone generation” because of how many people own one but there is always going to be a problem when we’re so attached to our smartphones – damaging them. We all know someone, it might even be ourselves, who have had the nightmare moment whereby the phone has fallen to the floor and the screen has shattered because you didn’t have an iPhone case to protect it and you’re now without a phone.

One of the very few flaws to the iPhone is how brittle it is. It’s to be expected really, with the device being so thin and lightweight, falling from any height is likely to cause damage and the corners take the brunt of the pressure, forcing damage to the casing or the screen. To prevent this from happening, there are a number of things you can do. The first is, as mentioned, to invest in some kind of case. This wraps around the phone and aims to take the force of the impact and stop the phone from being scratched when it’s in your bag or pocket.

Alternatively, you can buy a “sock” which you use to slide your phone into when you don’t need it, and out of when you do. This is usually a material shaped specifically for the iPhone to prevent scratches and damage and is a relatively cost-effective option that can be bought online or in stores.

You could even take out a form of insurance to make sure that you’re covered if something does go wrong with your phone. Similar to your contents or home insurance, you cover the phone for as little or as much as you want to, including options such as replacing the damaged model or covering the costs of any repairs that can be done.

A final option is more of a practical one and refers to how you treat your device. If you go away on holiday and take your phone out with you to the pool or the beach, you need to make sure you keep it out of direct sunlight. The iPhone can get very hot and this can make it stop working so, where possible, keep it in the shade. Also, make sure you don’t get it wet – that won’t do it much good either!
