It’s that time of year when everyone is cleaning out their stuff and have yard sales. I use to go out quite often, now I look forward to sleeping in!!
Here are some tips to make your’ morning go smoother.
- Bring change and small bills. It’s awkward if you buy something for $1.00 and hand over a $20.00 bill.
- Wear comfy shoes. One time I did not and found a great neighborhood sale and regretted not wearing my sneakers.
- Bring snacks and drinks. Especially if your toting children! While it’s nice to buy cookies and lemonade from the sales, you won’t always find them.
- Wear sunscreen and don’t forget your sunglasses and hat. The morning sun is brutal!
- Bring a screwdriver to open up battery compartments to look for corrosion.
- A map. You can buy a street map of your neighborhood or use google.
- Wipes or hand sanitizer. You touch a lot of stuff!
- Look inside CD’s, movies and appliances Make sure you are getting what you think you are.
- If you think a price is too high – haggle. I never used to do this, but tried it out a few weeks ago and it worked. All they can say is no.
- If you think you might want something, carry it around with you while you shop so someone else doesn’t come along and get it.
If your shopping for kids clothes and find someone who’s child is a little older than yours, ask the owner if you can get first dibs on clothes before the next sale. I’ve done this before and it’s a great idea! I asked the owner if she would call me before the next sale and she took my name and email.
And last but not least – Don’t get discouraged if you don’t find a lot of good deals. There’s always next week.
