Our Compost

I mentioned we started a compost earlier and someone asked me how we did it.
We took an old Rubbermaid container we had in the garage and my husband drilled holes in the top and bottom to allow for air and rain to get in and drain out. We then added shredded newspaper, leaves and our fruit scraps. We have since been adding coffee grinds, fruit and vegetable scraps and any yard debris. I added water to it at first, then we had a ton of rain.
It’s going pretty good so far. My husband, Don, did go out and turn it ( he used a shovel and just mixed it up a bit). It has a lot of flies and ants and does have an order, but he said it wasn’t too bad.

  1. So how has the compost turned out so far? And you have pictures? I really want to compost, but I'm trying to figure out how to make it work. I get inspired by those of you who just take the leap and then post about it.
