Twelve-year-old Kristina feels like the most unpopular girl in her school. The kids all tease her, and she never seems to fit in. But when Kristina receives an unusual Christmas gift from her teacher, she suddenly finds herself magically transported to the land of Bernovem. Home to dwarfs, gnomes, fairies, talking animals, and the evil Queen Sentiz.
Once in Bernovem, Kristina finds out she is “the chosen one”, the only one who can release the land from Queen Sentiz’s control. To save Bernovem, she must place the gift she was given, the famous “Magic Warble” in its final resting place. She must travel through the deep forest, climb a treacherous mountain, and risk capture by the queen’s “zelbocks” before she reaches her destination. Kristina meets fairy friends, Clover and Looper and Prince Werrien, a teenage boy, as well as an assortment of other characters. Kristina and her new friends set off on a perilous journey that not only tests her strength but her heart.
I really enjoyed this book. It’s a fun fantasy that is very easy to read. I can’t wait for my son to read it. I think he will really enjoy it as well. It’s similar to Chronicles of Narnia or even Harry Potter with the magic and characters. I would recommend it for anyone, tween and up. My son is 9 and it may be too long for him, but he’s not excited about reading. I would have enjoyed at 9 though. oh – and there’s a sequel coming out soon!
