My son, Hunter just turned ten and likes to read, some. I would love him to be an avid reader like me, but I’m not sure that will happen. I do try and find books that will peak his interest. So when asked if I wanted to review the Knights of Arrethtrae, I jumped at the chance. These books are for ages 9-12 and looked liked something he would be interested in.
I received the last two books in the series, Knights of Arrethtrae, Sir Quilan and the Swords of Valor and Sir Rowan and the Camerian Conquest.
Two friends face the Dark Knight’s deadliest scheme, but only one knight has the courage to overcome.
Sir Quinlan leaves his boyhood friend to serve the Prince, fighting a battle darker and more intense than any he’s ever known. The mysterious Sir Baylor recruits him into the ranks of an elite unit of knights known as the Swords of Valor, but when tragedy strikes and everyone blames Quinlan, the Swords of Valor disband, ending a legacy of heroic deeds.
Alone and despairing, Quinlan wanders the kingdom, fleeing his past. His providential encounter with Taras, a mysterious Silent Warrior and former trainer of Valor Knights, offers Quinlan a chance to redeem himself and learn the ways of the secret warriors.
from the website:
A knight left for dead. A country on the verge of ruin. And an evil lord rising to conquer.
Sir Rowan is the most decorated tournament knight in Cameria, but when he is attacked and left for dead, his world collapses. Betrayed and lingering at death’s door, only a bizarre vision of his Prince and the help of a woman dedicated to the King keeps him alive. As Rowan heals, he finds new purpose in life through service to his King.
One chapter that stuck in my head was Chapter 12: Bandits, from the book Sir Rowan.
Two thieves we’re stealing food Lady Miriah. Rowan came to the rescue and stopped the thieves. He then had them put the food back, then bring wood to the house. When they were done, Lady Mariah and Rowan fed the thieves. This shows compassion even to those who do us harm. I really like this kind of reading for my son.
These books come with maps and come pictures. What’s really cool is there are questions and discussions in the back of the books. These can used for homeschooling and for reading aloud with your children.
Hunter and I have really enjoyed these two books and am looking forward to the rest of the series.
The author Chuck Black is a former F-16 pilot/engineer. That in itself sounds totally cool. But, his stories encourage virtues like compassion and courage and confronts vices like greed and apathy. That’s something I would love to incorporate into my son’s reading. The books have biblical stories entwined with the novels.

I love this series. I only have the first three, so I would give the books to myself. Then I would only need to buy book 4.

I would give the books to my stepson. We've been trying to get him more interested in reading. It just hit me that maybe we've simply not found something he's interested in reading yet. These look like books he could get into and actually read for the fun of it. 🙂
