We ‘ve been moved and settled in, for the most part, for 3 weeks today! It’s beautiful up here in Ponte Vedra, Fl. The community we live in is nice and quite, except for the construction. I love our backyard. It’s open and not too spacious, but enough. I like how not many of the neighbors have fences.
Not many fences?? Well,I guess that will be changing. We were only here a few days and our neighbor wants us to go in with them to split a fence. I don’t want a fence. I like having the open backyard. It seems that a lot of the neighbors are buying these solid white composite fencing. Then all you will see is white!
We had a fence in our our old home, that was small and open. Kinda like a composite railing than a fence. We had a wooden one around the yard and a white metal one around the pool. If I ever do fence and gate installation again I would want once like that. Remember my home improvement post? I just like the open feeling they give and not that closed in feeling of the fence all the neighbors are getting.
I do have to say that I would love to screen in and extend our patio, maybe with wooden composite decking? Not sure how the decking would look, I may just have to extend using concrete. That is one thing I really miss – our patio at the old house. It was a large screened in room with pretty white wicker furniture. I had just bought these cool green cushions for it. I sold them thinking I would not have room and I thought they would get ruined being exposed to more elements. Maybe if we expand one day I can get new furniture.

So what do you like better? An open backyard or closed in?
I like an open backyard too but if I could see my neighbors and live as close to them as you do, I may want a fence.
I only had two neighbors beside me when we lived in our old house and we had woods to look at, our neighbor put up a big ugly wood fence and then added a chain link in the front. I was appalled at a chain link in the front. So I added the most unbelievable beautiful garden against that chain link fence. Oj and UM, I added wild raspberry plants that crept under her chain link fence and was popping up all over her yard LOL, she had no clue what I did. Oh such fond memories I have. Now no fencing but zero neighbors.. Oh hate the white fencing BTW I like organic looking.. 🙂
We don’t have neighbors very close… our property, along with all the neighbors surrounding me have between 2 – 3 acres. So we’re all spread out. However, we did fence in most of our backyard to keep our dog in, and to have a safer place for our son. I agree with April, I don’t care for the white fence, either.
I personally like a closed fenced yard. I feel like my children are safer that way (even though yes, I live in a safe neighborhood… I am just paranoid).
What did you tell your neighbors? If I didn’t want a fence I would have told them that if they want one than they need to pay for by themselves.
Love fences…totally believe the expression “High fences make for great neighbors”
I’ve had an open backyard, and I prefer a closed.
I’m all about privacy and fences. I would be thrilled if my neighbor wanted to go halves on one!
We live in a city & so we have a small backyard with brick walls all around our backyard. I WISH I had a big, UNfenced backyard- it’s one of my “dream house” stipulations! 🙂
I’m not sure. Back in our townhouse a fence would have been really nice, but now that we are living out in the country I don’t want a fence!
I’d want a fence, but this is coming from a city girl that’s untrusting and possessive.
love the way an open backyard looks but honestly with having a pool I’d want privacy. so I’d go with a fence those giant white ones are a bit of an eye sore though
I like a closed backyard, for the kids and the dog.
I personally like fenced in yard because who wants to hang out on their backyard and have to see their entire neighborhood? My neighbors are totally disgusting and their yards are filthy – two of my neighbors. I HATE that we don’t have a privacy fence up yet. 🙁 But we are saving for it!
I prefer closed as well because I know my kids are having fun without having to worry about them going off too far if I have to take my eyes off for a minute. I would hate to share a backyard with my neighbors.
I’d prefer a fence as I have 3 kids and their safety is very important. Plus, some fences are extremely beautiful and can really make your yard stand out.
With preschoolers, I prefer a fence. LOL.
If you don’t want to buy one then done. 😉
