Being a working mom is a tough task. Multi-tasking doesn’t even begin to describe how women juggle all the different errands that need tackling, and that’s before you even start your “real” working day! Even when mothers leave the office, the working day is still not done. There are kids to pick up from school, after school activities to be driven to, homework to be helped with, dinner to cook and children to get ready for bed. No doubt one of the last things on your mind is what you wear to work.
However, when time is of the essence, wouldn’t it be great to able to rush around in your work clothes without feeling stifled and uncomfortable? If you work in a formal office environment, it can often feel like you have to dress yourself in a stuffy trouser suit and a pair of killer heels in order to be taken seriously – not the ideal choice of outfit when you finish work and start running round after your kids. But there are style options that can take you from your home to the office and then back again whilst looking smart and feeling great.
Lose the jacket
Trouser suits undoubtedly look smart and professional, and many women feel more comfortable wearing trousers, instead of a skirt. However, at the end of long day a suit jacket can often feel restrictive. Instead of adding a jacket, just wear a sophisticated blouse, preferably in a natural material such as cotton which will help keep you cool. There is a massive choice of smart tops to wear for work, but if you get a statement blouse that has some detailing, your outfit will look complete without a jacket. The choice between long and short sleeves will obviously depend on the season, but either way there are plenty of choices out there to suit your taste. If possible, also get your trousers in a natural material, to help your skin to breathe.
Not every woman will wear heels to work, but sometimes that seems like that only option if you want to look professional. However, it is worth remembering that it is possible to get stylish and comfortable work shoes without having to wear a 5 inch heel. Fromballet flats to mid-height heels, there are shoes available which you can wear all day without your feet feeling sore.
Change up your shoes
At the end of a long day your feet will be thankful for you wearing comfortable shoes, and you will still be looking smart and professional – and ready for Mom duties!
Altering what you wear to work may not be life-changing, but it’s often the little things that help make a difference. Feeling more comfortable in your work clothes will not only help you when you’re in Mom mode, it will help you feel more confident at work – an added bonus considering how much time you spend there. You don’t have to overhaul your wardrobe – just maybe make a few tweaks to make your life as a working mother a little bit easier.
I’m all about comfy shoes. Nice to know they don’t have to be frumpy to be comfy!
I think wearing a suit jacket all day would be uncomfortable for me too, but I need some kind of cover-up. I’m always cold.
I’m more casual I always wear slacks and a blouse and I’m not much of a shoe person. I’m picky about shoes and purses.
Agree, if shoes aren’t comfy, they aren’t in my closet anymore. Gone are THOSE days of style only over comfort.
I’ve been getting rid of so many shoes lately because I realize they are just not comfy and they are just taking up space
I hate heels, so I’m glad for other options!
I love heels! I love shoes! But I do have to say I wear more comfy shoes than I used to. 🙂
I always keep an extra pair of shoes to make sure my feet are comfy.
I always wear a pair of cute, but comfy shoes!
Great advice! I traveled a lot and had to have stylish but comfy shoes for running through the airport.
Love these tips! I work from home and still refuse to look as if I do 🙂
