Winter is back in force and it’s time to stop wearing those stylish fall booties and light coats and switch to proper winter gear. Of course this doesn’t mean you need to look like an artic explorer especially as Ice Axes are so hard to accessorize! Instead you should flip your winter wardrobe just a bit and prepare to brave the cold while looking cool. So here is a quick reference guide on setting up your winter wardrobe.
Shoes
The right shoes are essential for your winter wardrobe, probably on par in terms of importance warm with your coat and stockings as far as staying warm goes. So you need to pick the right shoes for winter. Start with things that you like but that cover more skin (sandals in winter are for dress parties not the street) and work your way to things you know you’ll need like a pair of rubber boots or Uggs. Hunters are, for some reason, always stylish so don’t worry about looking weird in them. And don’t forget that Chelsea boots are all the rage this year.
Jacket
A stylish but good jacket is crucial if you want to look good and not freeze this winter. Make sure it’s a jacket adequate for the place where you’re living and also make sure you pick a neutral color if you intend to mostly only use one jacket. Don’t pick a purple jacket unless you already have one in brown, black or gray. White works but it is harder to maintain.
Scarf and Hat
Make sure to get a good hat, one that works well with your jacket. If you have several hats you’ll be better off but if you don’t plan on spending too much money on something that will mess up your hair anyway try picking a hat in a sedate color that works with your jacket and doesn’t clash with your shoes. A 1920s style close-fitting hat would work well for winter or maybe you could even pull off a 20s style ladies’ beret. What ever you pick make sure to match it with the next piece of clothing, your scarf. You probably have quite a bit of shawls and scarves so just make sure to choose one that draws attention to you and goes well with your shoes and your gloves.
Stockings
Finally we come to an essential part of every winter wardrobe. If you plan on wearing dresses and skirts buy quite a few pairs of thermal tights and leggings or you will freeze to death. If you plan on having any prolonged contact with the outside world don’t wear ultra sheers or any other thin, skimpy stockings. You’ll kick yourself later if your feet are still attached.
I love those boots! One of my favorite thing things about winter is boots.
