Q: How to save 67 lbs of trash a year?
A: Send you child to school with a reusable lunch kit!
•A child generates about 67 lbs of lunchtime trash/school year
•By using a reusable lunch sack and other storage items, a parent can save over $200/year not only in disposable bags but also by purchasing larger quantities of food and only packing what your child will eat
•Packaging accounts for nearly 1/3 of all household waste
Unfortunately my 13 year old son will no longer take a lunch box to school. I guess it’s not cool? He will only take a brown bag, I don’t want to him to uncool, but those bags and baggies add up!
Does your son or daughter refuse to take a lunch box to school? At what age did that start?
Wow, I can’t believe what a huge difference such a small change can make!
Wow, I had no idea that this could account fro 67 lbs. of trash a year. I homeschool so we don’t have to worry about packed lunches to much but we could make the switch for packing my hubby’s lunch!
My kids took lunch all the way through high school. They preferred it that way since they didn’t have to stand in line and they knew the food was things they like. 🙂
That’s amazing. I love the new reusable lunch bags, even though we homeschool. It is such a green alternative.
A reusable lunch kit sounds like the perfect alternative to paper bags. My kids don’t do bagged lunches. They just eat whatever is on the menu at school.
Wow, that number is staggering! My sister made my kids reusable lunch bags, but I only use them occasionally. I need to make it more of a priority.
I’m an empty nester now. I don’t recall my son ever refusing to take a lunch box.
My would not eat lunch at school in elementary school and now he will be going to a private middle school where he will take his lunch twice a week and get lunch catered twice a week… he doesn’t think it’s cool to take a brown paper bag.
Wow who knew you could cut back on so much trash with such a small change.
When my kids did take a lunch to school we always bought a lunch box.
Such interesting information. I am definitely going to make a point to reduce our school lunch waste this year.
Our daughter started bringing a reusable bag instead of a lunch bog probably when she was in 4th or 5th grade. Then we started homeschooling her in 7th, so she didn’t need to take lunch anymore 🙂
