“The cost of a summer holiday is something that has prevented many from  taking regular trips abroad particularly during peak times such as  school holidays as this is when vacation costs are at their highest. In  recent months, the cost of going on holiday has fallen dramatically and  even at their most expensive times holidays are more affordable for  everyone. Whether it is a beach break in Europe or Patagonia cruise ships, more people are having the choice of destination, holiday length and  activities, and all due to the falling costs of holiday packages. The  recession has meant that a holiday is most definitely a luxury and one  that so many are unable to even consider, however since 2012 the cost of holidays has dropped allowing families in particular the luxury of  going abroad.”

Despite the pound being weak against the euro, European holidays in particular are more affordable and since 2012 77% of European holidays are cheaper. Packages have dropped around 18% compared to 2012 and the huge drop opens up a variety of destinations and activities that would previously have been out of the question.

Holidays are longed for by those that spend the majority of the year working hard and have a strong need for a break, regardless of the length of time or the destination. Families, in particular, are keen to have holidays as a unit, not only do they offer some much needed rest and relaxation but the opportunity to bond as a family and have time together which may not be possible throughout the year. With holiday packages crashing, families are taking the opportunity to see places and regions that they only would have dreamed of before. In a bid to encourage and maintain tourism and popularity, European holiday resorts are competing against one another to offer the lowest prices and the best package deals. This combined with the effects of the recession means holiday costs are at an all time low and there is little to suggest when and if this fall will end.

The costs of flights continue to rise and fall on a near daily basis and this is another contributing factor to the lower holiday costs, packages will be at their lowest in terms of cost when the flight is also at a low price.

Cruises were the epitome of luxury and a holiday, which so many people aspired to afford and it was considered to be the ultimate indulgent. The cost of cruises has also seen a drop with the cost falling by 20% over the last 5 years. 24% of holiday makers now opt for the cruise as their holiday choice as it has become affordable to so many, it is the ideal way to see hidden beauties and stunning areas across the globe, something which many long to do and see.

Adventure Landing Jacksonville Beach Shipwreck Island WaterPark

PuttSwimPlay-jacksonville

Having lived in Jacksonville for a little over a year now, we still haven’t seen all there is to see! The kids have been wanting to check out this cool place called Adventure Landing. It’s a big waterpark with go carts, mini golf and an arcade. I’ve been reluctant to go, but we were given passes to go visit the waterpark and try it out, so why not?

001

We were given four passes, but my husband was not able to come. They let me exchange a waterpark pass for 3 mini golf passes.! Yeah! So we played mini golf first.

003

They were working on their mini golf course, which I thought should have been done already in time for summer. But we still had a great time.

005

It was a hot day and the kids were ready to go get wet!

007

009

My daughter loved the pirate ship and the smaller slides. While my son was more daring and went on all the bigger slides. We also visited the wave pool. Savannah thought the waves were awesome!

After waiting for my son to come down the slide my camera shut off so I only got this picture at the end. He loved it!

015

We dried off and changed and played some games in the arcade. Overall we had a great time! The price for the waterpark is kind of high for me, $30 a person. If I were to pay, I would make sure to stay longer…But there are some coupons to be found below.

Top 7 Job Markets Around the World for Travel Nurses

 10095516-happy-nurse-with-a-globe

This is a partnered guest post.

Global shortages in skilled nursing staff have made being a nurse one of the most easily transitioned jobs in the world, and travel nursing is especially in demand. With so many diverse options available, it can be difficult to choose what location would be the best for you to work in overseas. This post will explore seven of the best places to look for overseas nursing work, and why.

California, USA

While California may not be an exotic locale to some, it is worth a look at travel nursing jobs in the Golden State before jetting off abroad. There are many openings in diverse cities in California every year, and the pay is great, especially if you have a masters degree in healthcare management. Consider a position that puts you by the beach, in Hollywood or near one of the state’s amazing national and state parks.

Saudi Arabia

Many nurses choose to work in Saudi Arabia or other Middle Eastern countries because of the great pay and benefits. According to some nurses, the benefits alone make these jobs sweet choices. Nurses report receiving airfare reimbursements, long holidays and working in state-of-the-art facilities. Additionally, many hospitals in the Middle East require all medical staff to speak English on the job, so while English isn’t spoken on the street, American nurses’ language skills are valued in the hospital. Two-year commitments are normal with a vacation to visit home scheduled between the first and second years.

Australia

See the vast deserts and bountiful beaches of Australia by choosing to work Down Under. As in all other English-speaking countries, American nurses are welcomed. Additionally, nurses who have earned their registration in the United States qualify for Australia’s Competency Based Assessment Program, making the visa and employment process quicker and faster. Most jobs will require a two-year commitment.

The United Kingdom

The UK has a large nursing shortage and is looking for nurses from abroad, but the requirements for working here are a little stricter than in other countries. Nurses will need to register with the government’s Nursing and Midwifery Council to get a license, which might take some time. Of course, for the UK and any other countries that require a local license, you’ll need your US registration to be up-to-date. Many nurses who would like to travel in Europe on their days off choose to work in the UK.

Alaska, USA

Alaskan institutions are looking to bring in staff for many career fields, because the local population is relatively small while the demand for nurses and other skilled workers is high. Working in Alaska, unlike some of the other places mentioned here, won’t require a visa or other government paperwork, but you will have to be prepared for those long, cold winters.

Canada

If you are worried about traveling abroad for the first time, then Canada might be a good way to ease in to the international travel-nursing lifestyle. While not so different culturally from the USA, Canada is a vast and interesting place to explore, with a high standard of health care services. Outdoorsy types will especially enjoy Canada’s year-round recreational opportunities.

Cruise Ships, Worldwide

If there are so many places you want to go in your career as a travel nurse that you can’t possibly pick just one, you might apply for positions as a nurse on a cruise ship. Tend to passengers on board and rotate shifts with other nurses for shore leave while having full access to the ship’s amenities. However, pay packages, contract lengths and duty expectations vary widely between cruise lines, so if you choose this option, you’d be wise to do plenty of research before packing up.

Nurses return from abroad with a greater understanding of global health care issues and a better ability to help people in their own communities. Working abroad looks good on job or higher-education program applications as well.
