Spring is here and that means new flowers and plants, maybe even a garden. But when getting all that ready don’t forget to keep your lawn healthy and looking good too! Bonus S is an existing lawncare product designed specifically for southern grass and weeds. We’ve used this product before but a new, more effective formula that’s guaranteed to clear out listed weeds including dollarweed and clover being delivered this spring. Unfortunatley it will only be available in tow areas of Florida, Ft. Myers and Jacksonville. Since I live in Jacksonville I was sent a package to use on my lawn. Last weekend I decided to spruce up the yard and tackle some projects I’ve been meaning to do. You can also check out this Organic Lawn Care Guide.

The first step was to head over to Home Depot last weekend to get some plants and soil and there was Scott’s Lawn promoting the new Bonus S. They asked if I fertilized my lawn yet and I said yes. Then they mentioned to fertilize it again after six weeks using the Scotts Turf Builder and my grass would be beautiful by summer! Our home is fairly new and we’ve been trying to keep the grass green and healthy, but we have had a few patches of not so great grass. Bonus S But with this new and improved formula that’s guaranteed to clear out dollarweed and clover, I am more hopeful that our grass will stay weed free. This Bonus S controls 82% more types of weeds and is safe for more major southern grass types including St. Augustinegrass (including Floratam), bermudagrass(new), centipedegrass, zoysiagrass, seashore paspalum(new) and buffalograss(new). Look how nice and green it is! 119

You can purchase Bonus S at most major retailers in Ft. Myers and Jacksonville.

Dancing with Fireflies – Book Review

I received a copy of this book to review.

Dancing with Butterflies

Dancing with Fireflies by Denise Hunter was a wonderful read! It was a light romance with no mushy stuff, no mystery just a good old-fashioned novel. I really loved how the character were brought to life and interacted with each other. I could see this as a wonderful movie as well.

Dancing with Fireflies is about a young woman, Jade that returns home pregnant and no where else to turn. While home looking for  a job and a husband she finds herself falling in love with a childhood friend.

Jade returns home to Chapel Springs after years of protecting her fragile heart. Then along comes Daniel, making her long to dance again.

Creative and complicated, Jade McKinley felt like a weed in a rose garden growing up in Chapel Springs. When she left, she thought she’d never look back. But now, pregnant, alone, and broke, she has no other choice but to return.

The mayor of Chapel Springs, Daniel Dawson, has been an honorary member of the McKinley family for years. While his own home life was almost non-existent, Daniel fit right into the boisterous McKinley family. He’s loved Jade for years, but she always saw him as a big brother. Now that she’s back, his feelings are stronger than ever.

As Jade attempts to settle in, nothing feels right. God seems far away, she’s hiding secrets from her family, and she’s strangely attracted to the man who’s always called her “squirt.” Finding her way home may prove more difficult than she imagined.

Cream Cheese Brownie Pie

036

I was sent a nice little package of goodies to make a delicious recipe of my choice. I looked through the Pillsbury Bake-Off, 100 Winning Recipes and chose a previous winning recipe – Cream Cheese Brownie Pie.

005

In my package came Watkins Vanilla, Reynolds Parchment Paper and Foil, flour, baking cups and slow cook liners.

022

My daughter had fun rolling out the pie crust. The parchment paper came in handy.

Instead of using pie crusts I used Gluten Free Dough. It comes in a small container and you take out what you need and save the rest.

Cream Cheese Brownie Pie
Recipe Type: Dessert
Ingredients
  • Crust:
  • 1 box Pillsbury refrigerated pie crusts, softened
  • Cream Cheese Layer:
  • 1 package (8 oz.) cream cheese, softened
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • Brownie Layer:
  • 1 box Pillsbury double chocolate brownie mix
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 pecans ( I left them out)
  • Topping:
  • Reserved chocolate syrup packet form brownie mix
  • 3 tablespoons hot fudge topping
Instructions
  1. Heat oven to 350. Place pie crust in 9 inch glass pie plate.
  2. In medium bowl, beat cream cheese layer ingredients with electric mixer on medium speed until smooth, set aside.
  3. Reserve chocolate syrup packet from brownie mix for topping. In larger bowl, place brownie mix, oil, 1 tablespoon water and eggs. Beat 50 strokes with spoon.
  4. Spread 1/2 cup brownie mixture in bottom of crust-lined pie plate. Spoon and carefully spread cream cheese mixture over brownie layer. Top with small spoonfuls of remaining brownie mixture, spread evenly. Sprinkle with pecan if you add them. Cover crust edge with 2 inch wide strips of foil to prevent excessive browning , remove foil during last 15 minutes of bake time.
  5. Bake 40-50 minutes or until center is puffed and crust golden brown.
  6. In small bowl, mix chocolate syrup and hot fudge topping. Drizzle on top, cool 3 hours. Cover and refrigerate and remaining pie.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Captain America

I am so excited that this is out today. I am hooked on all the Marvel moves and the new TV series,  Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. I only wish I could go today. But we are headed to Disney on Ice. It’s supposed to rain tomorrow so maybe it will a good time to go.

Captain America

Here a trailer for the movie.

And some fun facts!

* The Winter Soldier character, played by Sebastian Stan in the film, was created for Marvel comics by Ed Brubaker in 2005. Though the character of Bucky Barnes existed previously in the Captain America comic books, he was killed off in WWII and not resurrected until Brubaker brought him back as the Winter Soldier.

* For the scenes in the film that took place on the ship Lumerian Star, the filmmakers used the Sea Launch Commander, docked in Long Beach, Calif. Although there were space challenges involved to choreograph complex fight sequences in the tight spaces of a real ship, the filmmakers were happy to be able to further ground the film in reality by using an existing vessel.

* In Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” fans will get to see multiples of the 2.0 version of the helicarrier as well as S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters based in a building called the Triskelion in Washington, D.C. The Triskelion is a newly designed design, state-of- the-art facility that fits seamlessly into the backdrop of Washington.

* Chris Evans truly had mixed martial arts training for Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” as the fighting techniques he employed in the film were a mixture of Parkour, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, karate and boxing. The filmmakers believed that bringing Steve Rogers into the modern day also meant that he had studied and mastered modern fighting styles and techniques.

* With an acrobatic approach to fighting being featured in the film, Chris Evans willingly engaged in gymnastics training. That training had a big payoff for Evans when it came time to shoot fight sequences like the Elevator Fight.

* The Elevator Fight was the first fight sequence shot for the film. It featured Brock Rumlow and ten guys in a crowded elevator with Captain America. The challenge was how much choreography could the filmmakers squeeze into a very small space. Realizing that Steve Rogers would have to be on the defensive, the stunt coordinators let Chris Evans use his hands and feet in close quarters until he gets a bit more room to use his fighting techniques and do some serious damage
