Style Doesn’t Cost a Thing…

I don’t know about you, but my budget doesn’t always allow me to buy the latest, most expensive, fashionable clothing. It’s hard enough paying my ever increasing bills on time, never mind investing in a new wardrobe each season! However, I got thinking that there must be a way to look stylish on a budget. With a little determination and a lot of research, I managed to come up with a few ways to look stylish without spending a fortune including finding cheap shoes and making the most of what I already have.

1. Plan ahead

The best way to save money on fashionable clothing is to invest in end of season sales. Every single fashion store holds an end of season sale, with the two main ones being at the end of winter and the end of summer. As you won’t need the clothing for another six months or so, stores often sell their stock at ridiculously low prices. By investing today, you’ll have stylish new clothes ready for next year.

2. Turn old items into new ones

According to personal stylist Joanna Skarin, most women only wear around 20% of the clothes in their wardrobe. This leaves a massive 80% unaccounted for. If you find there are a lot of items of clothing you don’t wear, why not tweak them a little? You can customise old clothes to make them into new ones. Adding accessories and making a few alterations helps you to enhance your style at an affordable cost.

3. Shop around

There are regular sales, as well as discounted items available in most fashion stores. For example, you should easily be able to find discount shoes. Sales aren’t just held at the end of the season so it makes sense to look around to see what current offers are available.

4. Flea markets can be your new best friend

While it’s important to invest in a few, high quality pieces, the majority of your wardrobe can be made up from bargains you can find at flea markets. Take your time to look through everything at your local flea market and you’ll easily find at least one item of clothing to suit your individual style.

5. Swap with your friends

If you really don’t have any money to spend at all, why not swap with your friends? Get together for a girly night and dig out everything you don’t wear. Get your friends to bring their unwanted items of clothing and see if you can make a swap. You won’t have to pay a dime and you may just find some really cool new items for your wardrobe.

If you’re struggling to find your style, take a look online for inspiration. While following the latest trends may seem important, what you mainly have to focus on is finding your own individual style. Look for inspiration on the type of clothes that suit your body shape too. Dressing to suit your figure will ensure you have the best possible style to fit you. It doesn’t have to cost a fortune to update your wardrobe and keep up with the latest styles.

The Calling – Book Review

The Calling

The Calling by Suzanne Woods Fisher is the second book for the Eagle Hill Series. But you don’t have to read book one to fall in love with book two.

I have to say that I’ve been reading Suzanne Woods Fisher for over a year now and love her characters. The books may be different settings but she keeps some of the same characters, such as Jimmy Fisher. Jimmy Fisher was just a mischievous boy, always getting into trouble, when I met him in another book long ago but in The Calling he is a grown man wanting to settle down and do what’s right.

The Calling’s main character is Bethany Schrock. Bethany is still lost from her break up last year and is trying to find her calling. A guest at Eagle Hill, an Amish home that accepts guests, helps Bethany along her journey. All the while Bethany and Jimmy grow closer and closer. This books offers some suspense and mystery to keep you on your toes and the journey of a young woman finding her way.

About the book:
Bestselling author Suzanne Woods Fisher delivers her trademark twists, turns, and tender romance in this delightful and exciting visit to the deceptively quiet community of Stoney Ridge.

Twenty-year-old Bethany Schrock is restless. Her love life has derailed, her faith hangs by a thread, and she is spending the incredibly hot summer days wading through a lifetime’s accumulation of junk at the home of five ancient Amish sisters. About the only thing that holds her interest is the spirited and dangerously handsome Jimmy Fisher—and he seems bent on irritating her to no end.

When the sly old sisters and a guest at the Inn get Bethany involved in running the local soup kitchen and starting a community garden, she suddenly finds herself wondering, Shootfire! How did that happen? Despite her newfound purposefulness, a gnawing emptiness about a childhood mystery continues to plague her. Encouraged by Jimmy Fisher, she will seek out the answers she craves—and uncover a shocking secret that will break her heart, heal it, and point her to love.

Valentine’s Day Nail Art

Nail art

My daughter and I both get a kick out of painting our toes to match the holidays or season. This was very easy to do. I used a nice bright pink nail polish. Then added 3 dots of red polish and brought them togehter to make a heart. Finally we added some clear sparkle on top!

Will you paint your toes for Valentine’s Day?

4 Must Have Accessories For Working Moms

This is a guest post.

4_Must_Have_Accessories_For_Working_Moms

All moms are busy, but a working mom takes occupied to a whole new level. Today “women now make up half of all workers in the United States, with nearly 4 in 10 homes having a mom that is also a working mother,” according to AmericanProgress.org.  Between everything that a woman needs to do at work and running a house there is little time for herself.  However, with the right accessories even a busy mom can find the time to do everything for work and family and carve out some me time and pampering.

Smartphone – Whether it be an iPhone, a BlackBerry, or a Windows phone, a smartphone offers a busy mom a way to stay organized and keep kids entertained. With a smartphone there are apps for all sorts of things a working mom needs, such as a calendar to track all of the appointments that fill up a day, educational apps that help keep kids learning while on the go, and apps for Netflix and Pandora for entertainment during the down times.

Crockpot – A simple kitchen accessory like a crockpot can give a mom hours of time with her family by making meal time easier and clean up a snap. There are plenty of free recipes online, but Allrecipes.com has an entire section dedicated to crock pot meals. With dinner cooking during the day and with a liner in the crock pot dinner time and clean up is a snap leaving more time to focus on quality time with the family.

Comfy Undergarments – All working moms need is a pair of compression or light support tights. They go under your work clothes and will leave your body feeling awesome after a long day of work. Between work and home there isn’t always a lot of time for exercise, but to maintain healthy legs that feel good at the end of the day a working mom just needs to put them on in the morning and go.  Compression leg sleeves help provide healthy blood flow in the legs and support and strengthen the legs. There are many types of compression socks to choose from and shopping online makes it an easy purchase to make.

Great On-The-Go Bag – To fill with everything a mom might need when running around with the kids. Having a bag filled with healthy snacks, water bottles, wet wipes, and a small emergency kit, to name a few, can save time and money between extra curricular activities, appointments, and all those other things that keep the family out and about when mom gets home off work.

Moms are more prevalent then ever in the workforce. Working moms need some time for themselves between all that work and home demand and with these four must have accessories every working mom can get things done and have a little pampering for herself. Being a full-time working mother is enough hard work on its own – make life easier for yourself!  The key is to stay focus, get organized, and find the right balance between profession and parenthood.
