What Is a Safety Patrol?

What is a safety patrol, really?

I always thought it was the older children in elementary school that stood in the halls, by the bike rack and various posts throughout the school and watched the younger children and asked them to slow down.

That’s what I did many years ago. We had a class and instructions and we were there to help kids safely enter and exist school.

That’s not how it is at my son’s school. He didn’t make patrol at the beginning because of his grades, but we just found out this week he made patrol. Yeah!! We are so excited for him, he’s excited.

Then I find out what he does during his post…

His post is right outside of a classroom. To start off, he sharpens all the pencils and takes the chairs and places them by each desk. What??

He’s happy, so I’m happy, but really if they have too many patrols, maybe they should make the criteria harder or switch them out.

(Yes, that’s me in the top pic in the back, terrible picture)
