Carpet Issues…

We have been in our new house over a year now. About six months after we moved in we noticed the carpet was bunching in most of the rooms. We called the builders and were told that this is normal.

Now we had new carpet put in our old home and never had bunching before.

The builders reassured us that because the carpet was put in during cooler weather, when summer came the carpet stretches and therefore bunches. Thankfully we were under our year warranty and they came out and fixed the carpet. They never moved any furniture, just pushed the carpet to one side of the room and cut and stapled it back down.

Then a few months later it started to bunch again! We were still under warranty but really? Is this normal?

They came out again and this time they did move some of the furniture but they could not move my bed, as I have a waterbed. Yes, I know who has those anymore, but it’s a  motionless, pillow top waterbed and I love it! Looking at my carpet this closely all the time, I think it’s time for some carpet and rug cleaning.

They did their thing again.

Now it’s after our year and after our warranty period and I can see bunching in several rooms!!

Has this happened to anyone else?

  1. I hate carpet. We have had trouble with it bunching up and with keeping it clean. That is why we switched to hardwood floors a year or so ago. Never made a better decision.

  2. I have carpet and EVERY DAY I miss my hard wood floors.

  3. How frustrating! I’ve never had new carpet so I wouldn’t know. lol

  4. Our carpet needs to be stretched in a few places. It’s gotten this way over the past few years, but is the original carpet and is about 10 years old. I would assume that it’s something that happens over time, but I’ve never heard of it happening with brand new carpet.

  5. That’s so odd, I’ve never heard of that before.

  6. I love hardwood floors

  7. We bought our house as a newly built and the carpet in our bedroom started to bunch too. It’s only in one spot in our bedroom, but it annoys me. I would just like to remove the carpet altogether.

We are in Arizona and we have not had that issues but we don’t have the humidity like Florida. Maybe it is an issue with the original installation. If I were you, I would contact another company that sells carpet in your area and find out if it is a normal occurrence or an issue with the installation. Builders tend to do what they can to just put the issue to rest temporarily. Once you are out of warranty, you will have to deal with it yourself.

  9. Hmmm, bunching carpet. That sounds like really poor installation practices, it should not do that. When we purchased our home–new construction–the carpet was the cheapest carpet available thanks to a cheap builder. We ended up ripping it up and installing wood flooring. The carpet was nice when the kids were babies but it’s much cleaner with the wood now.

  10. No that’s never happened to me – even when I had a home with carpet – but I try to avoid carpet usually.

  11. I’ve lived many places with carpeting (including our home now) and have never had a problem with bunching before. So weird!

  12. That doesn’t sound normal to me at all. It sounds like they are trying to put you off until your warranty does run out. I’m glad I don’t have carpet in my house anymore.

  13. Never happened to me either. Sorry!

  14. I have never known new carpet to bunch.
